Not how I expected. Soft graceful story of one man‘s simple life, with historical markers of the 20 century.
Have been meaning to read this for years finally getting around to it and finding it hard to put down. Makes me want to visit the Dolomites.
Story time. Yesterday I was looking for my copies of Heidi. I knew I had a few and I came across the one that my brother-in-law gave me after my sister died, I knew it had belonged to my grandmother. Well, I open it up and found a note she had written to my grandmother when she was around eight which means I was about five. I can‘t believe I have this. 🩷

Non so
Finally finished this yesterday. The film adaption of this was my favorite movie of 2023 and I‘m glad to say Cognetti‘s writing was equally elegiac and haunting. One reviewer has called this a male version of Ferrante‘s My Brilliant Friend and I don‘t think it‘s an unfair comparison. It‘s a shame more male authors don‘t write about the complexity of male friendships.
Book 5. I started my Christmas in July reading marathon a couple months late this year, but this charming, light read was just the palette cleanser I needed. I've enjoyed most of Melody Carlson holiday books and am looking forward to reading more.

At the beginning of the novel, Pietro, the narrator, is a child who lives in Milan with his parents in the 1980s. Both parents grew up in mountain villages and take him hiking, spend every summer in a mountain hut where he meets and befriends Bruno. This is the story of their friendship which will last 30 years and the story of Pietro‘s love for the mountains. Great premise but it‘s boring and predictable
