⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Short stories with one commonality: someone who left Kentucky but yearns to return. Tonally, these stories complement each other very well. He created down-and-out characters in fascinating, often endearing ways. I‘m drawn to Offutt, because I, too was born and raised in the Bluegrass State and love the references. Definitely seeking out his backlist. He attended the illustrious Iowa Writers‘ Workshop, so that‘s an automatic plus for me!

My #BookSpin is my #TBRtarot book which is The Goldfinch.
My #DoubleSpin is a TBR title. When I began filling in my board, it ended up being The Boscombe Valley Mystery that I‘m reading for #NoPlaceLikeHolmes

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!!! 23h

CBee @RaeLovesToRead hahahaha NICE 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2d
CBee @AmyG oh yay! So you can take your time with it 😊 2d
AmyG It‘s a big, dense book. I couldn‘t possibly, with all my challenges, pick up another huge book this month. 2d
CBee @AmyG I get it 😊 2d
Read4life I can see that you tagged me but I didn‘t get a notification. I wonder how many other times that‘s happened.🤦🏼‍♀️ 2d
CBee @Read4life I had a lot of issues getting the tags to post this morning, maybe that‘s why? 2d
ChelseaM6010 I‘m gonna tackle The Crow Girl! 2d
CBee @ChelseaM6010 that‘s a big one! 2d
Meshell1313 Ooh fun! Right now my biggest is 2d
Meshell1313 @Read4life same!!! Something has been up with Litsy I think. 2d
OriginalCyn620 By page count, this one is the biggest on my shelf. I can‘t promise to get it completed this month but I will at least start it! 5h
Librariana I was going to ask to be readded to the list, sis, but I see that you DID tag me 😳 But like others, I didn't get a notification 🥺 As for my selection, I was staring at this one last night, but I don't know if it's my biggest by page count 3h
CBee @OriginalCyn620 sounds good to me! 2h
CBee @Librariana something weird was going on with tags the other day. I might go back and try to re-tag everyone! 2h
CBee @Librariana I‘m also looking at Babel, it‘s chunky 😳😂 (edited) 2h
CBee Going to try and tag everyone again to see if it works - can y‘all let me know? (edited) 2h
Librariana The comment tags worked! 💖 1h
CBee @Librariana it‘s so weird because it‘s not showing up!! 🤷‍♀️ 1h
Librariana @CBee Whoa 😳 That is odd! But I saw that someone mentioned in an earlier comment that something had been up with Litsy. Maybe just a hiccup? A tiny glitch? Maybe Litsy woke up on the opposite side of the bed and it threw their whole day? 1h
Librariana Most of us know or will probably think of coming to look at your profile, sis. Wouldn't worry too much about it 😊💜 1h
CBee @Librariana thanks sis ♥️ I think something might still be up with it but hopefully it‘ll get resolved soon! 1h

#ReadAway2024 #NonFiction2024 MAUS is the fiction prompt and this is my nonfiction selection. #TBRTarot Choose a book whose author‘s name begins with C. This is a heartbreaking yet joyful book about the experiences of one of the leaders of the Dutch Underground during WWII.

Andrew65 Looks an excellent read, well done 🎉🎉🎉 3d

Hey Littens! I'm writing a paper about reading challenges/goals. So I'm curious, how many challenges/ book clubs do you participate in on a monthly basis? Such as bookspin, natural litsy, booked in time, Litsy Scifi Book Club, etc... Or what is the most unique challenge you've ever done? Tell me all about it!

willaful One of the most interesting challenges I ever did was called “Making it Real“ and it was a monthly nonfiction challenge. A random Dewey category (400s, 700s, etc.) was picked every month and everyone chose a book catalogued with that number. It got me to read much more widely. 4d
Ruthiella Two challenges, I‘m not that serious about them: #52BookClub24 and #pop24 and two TBR busters #TBRTarot and #Roll100 . At least seven group reads, though two just finished and another is bi-monthly: #LMWBR #FurrowedMiddlebrowClub #ClassicLSFBC #LitsySFBC #LitsyToB24 #NancyDrewBR and #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade . I like how each makes me read more widely. 4d
Susanita Three book clubs plus #authoramonth plus #serieslove2024 plus #readordonate … Too much??? 4d

thebacklistbook I try to stick to challenges that are more freeform in nature. I track them on storygraph. I usually do them with the goal of clearing some tbr. I'm doing read around the world and OWLS which are both finish at your own pace and then I have three that are finish at year end. I don't do book clubs as I find them a little to structured. 3d
Karisimo @Ruthiella and @willaful thanks for including. “Why” you do the challenges! (edited) 3d
Karisimo @Susanita definitely not too much 😉 3d
Karkar I do not usually do them anymore. I found that for me it became too much like homework instead of enjoying the reading time. 21h
Karisimo @karkar you‘re not alone! A lot of people feel the same! 20h

Wow. This was a fascinating, very readable nonfiction book about Russia‘s last tsar and his family. I knew very little about the years surrounding the Russian Revolution prior to reading this book, so I really learned a lot. All the names are here - Nicholas, Alexandra, Rasputin, Lenin, “The Bolsheviks”, “The Soviets” and more. Now I have a basic understanding of the stories behind those names. ⬇️

julieclair I also now have a deep sense of sadness for the history of the Russian people. Thank you, @Cuilin , for choosing the Russian Revolution as our February theme for #BookedInTime. #ThemesMotifs&Tropes - Russian Revolution, Grand House (2 points) #TBRTarot @CBee (edited) 4d
Cuilin #BookedInTime #RussianRevolution ✔️ 🎉I‘m glad you liked this prompt. And you just reminded me to post my own book review for this month. 4d
julieclair @Cuilin I look forward to reading your review! 4d

If not because of #TBRtarot I would not have chanced upon this book or author. A well-written, delightful story of four girls who turned a run-down cottage into their summer play house. I enjoyed the nice humour, and the way the girls are portrayed..reminds us of the simple joys of growing up. Published in 1904, it‘s old fashioned but sweet.

erzascarletbookgasm Have you read this @LeahBergen ? I think you‘ll enjoy it 😊 1w
LeahBergen Thank you! This has been on my “to find” list for several years! It sounds so good. 1w
erzascarletbookgasm @LeahBergen It‘s available on Gutenberg but it‘ll be lovely to own a vintage edition, look at that cover! 1w

I love all the movie references on the cover, and there are many more throughout the book - each chapter begins with a quote from a romcom. And yes, it‘s predictable, but most romcoms are. This one was sweet, like a mix of Pretty in Pink, 10 Things, and Bridget Jones all rolled into one!

#bookspinbingo - free space
#tbrtarot - has a dedication to mom (it also has a dedication to the author‘s deceased father…hope it still counts)
