A very soft pick for me. Henry has taken the romans tropes and played around with them a bit, but ultimately, it‘s still an enemies-to-lovers story. It‘s well-written, with character development, but apparently I only enjoy romances in December. And I‘m also a bit of a prude ‘cos I don‘t like the spicy bits!

3½ ✨
This was a very quick read. A bit young, and the characters lack emotional depth. But the story did grab me.
I'm definitely reading the rest of the series.

I think I bought this because of the cover; I definitely started reading it because of a Goodreads challenge, and realised it‘s not a genre I normally read. I wasn‘t sure I‘d like it, but I‘m pleased to say I loved it. Lots of “wait, what, so he…? And she….?”!

Beautiful writing, without any sensationalism or exaggeration, telling what it was like to live through 1943 & 44 in Italy, first far enough from the fighting to be considered a safe place to evacuate children, then literally the front lines. Fleeing at a moments notice, on foot, with 4 infants, 23 children under 10, and various adults. Dealing with partisans, fascists and Germans, all armed, all wanting to take whatever food, clothes etc.

Lcsmcat And thought it all she works on saving lives, while the fate of her extended family is unknown. Highly recommended. #letterW #litsyatoz @Texreader 4d
Texreader Sounds so good. 4d
Lcsmcat @Texreader It is, and I recommend reading her earlier diaries first 4d

These books always feel like coming home.
I've always loved books with doors and quests. And McGuire gives me a place to go each year that fills the door-shape hole in me that needs filling.
Somehow I've missed this one last year, so I have two doors to go through this year.
I love how each book continues on the previous books, but always have their own adventures in new unknowns.

A collection of short stories. Each story centered around a character's passion - friendship, lust, a mother's love - and multiply the passion tenfold in the larger context. I was highly engaged and couldn't wait to start the next story. #FoodandLit #LitsyAtoZ@Texreader @Catsandbooks

Why do I do this to myself?
I'm not a Romance person, I hate the tropes and can tell from the first chapter who the love interest will be.
But still once a year I try a Romance novel.
So please know that it's not the book reflected in my rating, but my personal feelings towards Romances in general.
I should just stop torturing myself.

AnnCrystal Discovering that same problem with Christmas reads...I'm not a romance nor drama reader. I will watch these genres in movies, yet not really books 📚🤔💝. 6d
Kristin_Reads I‘m the same too! 🙋‍♀️ 6d

Enchanted_Bibliophile @AnnCrystal Same, I love nothing better than a Rom-Com and Christmas themed movies, but reading them just drives me nuts 6d

Ruthiella 100% the same. I can watch a rom com, no problem. But I dislike romance as a literary genre. A book that has a romantic element in it along with other plot elements, I can do . But straight up romance? No thank you . 🙂‍↔️ 6d

What would happen if you skipped from your 20s to your 40s, from all of the hard work starting out at your job to being successful at your career, from dating to find the right person to being married to a wonderful husband with 2 great kids? That's exactly what happened to Lucy after she made a wish on an arcade game, a wish that she could just get to the good part of her life already.
