I love these books, and this one is no exception. Constance Kopp is the first female deputy sheriff in New Jersey. She's a spunky, powerful protagonist that takes things into her own hands but isn't without faults. I love the way historical fact is seamlessly woven into fiction, making her adventures fun but based in reality. I especially love that there is no romance subplot, an exhausting trope in mystery & historical fiction novels. 👮🏻♀️

coffeenebula Romance is exhausting in every genre! 7y
AmyStewart Yeah, I have zero interest in finding boyfriends for them. 7y
BookishFeminist @AmyStewart Yes! It's hard to find characters like that in books. I'm asexual so it feels really stifling when every other book has a romance subplot. Whether it's your intent or not, it's really validating, so thank you! 7y
AmyStewart @BookishFeminist yeah, I just don't think that romantic love is ever the solution to a problem. I mean, it's a wonderful thing in & of itself, but I don't find it interesting as a narrative arc. 7y
