Lady Cop Makes Trouble
Lady Cop Makes Trouble | Amy Stewart
The best-selling author of Girl Waits with Gun returns with another adventure featuring the fascinating, feisty, and unforgettable Kopp sisters. After besting (and arresting) a ruthless silk factory owner and his gang of thugs in Girl Waits with Gun, Constance Kopp became one of the nations first deputy sheriffs. She's proven that she cant be deterred, evaded, or outrun. But when the wiles of a German-speaking con man threaten her position and her hopes for this new life, and endanger the honorable Sheriff Heath, Constance may not be able to make things right.Lady Cop Makes Trouble sets Constance loose on the streets of New York City and New Jersey--tracking down victims, trailing leads, and making friends with girl reporters and lawyers at a hotel for women. Cheering her on, and goading her, are her sisters Norma and Fleurette--that is, when they aren't training pigeons for the war effort or fanning dreams of a life on the stage.Based on a true story, Girl Waits with Gunintroduced Constance Kopp and her charming and steadfast sisters to an army of enthusiastic readers. Those readers will be thrilled by this second installment--also ripped from the headlines--in the romping, wildly readable life of a woman forging her own path, tackling crime and nefarious criminals along the way.

A fun read, and I think the a- and b-plots were balanced better in this one than in the previous book.

How convenient that I should happen to have this pigeon drawing on my wall.

Another great romp with Constance Kopp! I actually enjoyed this book better than the first and I felt like it moved at a much faster pace. Fleurette was definitely less annoying in this book, but that‘s probably just because she‘s not in as much, haha. I definitely plan to pick up the next book!

In this sequel to Girl Waits With Gun, Constance Kopp is determined to earn a deputy‘s badge, but a con man escaping under her watch has Miss Kopp and Sheriff Heath on a wild goose chase to put him back behind bars before the sheriff is jailed in his place and Miss Kopp loses her job. Although this features less of the other Kopp sisters than the first book, I still enjoyed it. Fantastic writing and characterization. I‘m hooked on Constance!

I really enjoyed this second installment of the Kopp Sisters series. It‘s based on the real life exploits of Constance Kopp, one of the first female deputy sheriffs in the country. She was a real trailblazer, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The question I had in the previous post turned out to have a satisfactory answer in the end. Constance is hard at work proving herself in this book and I admit by the end I was sympathetic to the Sheriff‘s exasperation! Definitely a leaner book than the first one, less backstory-heavy.

Ok, I can‘t be reading this right. So the old Italian lady says she shot the boarder, ran away on a trolley and then came back to the scene of the crime; but the cops have witnesses that the shot happened at the time she said she was on the trolley. Constance interviews her and discovers that she was trying to shoot her husband and hit the boarder by accident; she came back to the scene b/c if she was arrested she‘d be protected from her husband >

jfount > But this doesn‘t solve the timing problem at all?! It makes sense of the motivation for coming back but I don‘t see how it changes the timing at all? 1y

There is a plot involving the capturing of an escaped criminal. However, the part I liked about this book were seeing Sheriff Heath a little more flawed. In the first book he seemed the perfect sheriff. Here we see that he has flaws and can be insensitive. Enjoyed watching Fluerrette continue to come into her own. Because of a charade that was set up in the first novel, Constance cannot discipline her as she likes, creating conflict for Constance.

Stanley Cup finals and a book. Who says you can‘t have it all? 🏒 📚 📖

Soubhiville Yay! I‘d be happy for either team to win. Who are you cheering for? 1y
LisaJo @Soubhiville So neither one of these teams are “my team“. Sort of rooting for Vegas because they‘re new and they made it to the finals for the first season. Plus Fluery. However, if they can‘t pick up those rebounds and help out their goalie a little bit, they are going to lose. Just excited for some good hockey. To be honest, I would be excited for bad hockey team. 1y
Soubhiville Lol, I feel the same, pretty much. My husband is the real fan in our house, and he‘s a Devils fan. But he‘s rooting Caps because they haven‘t gotten a cup in a long time. It‘d be cool for Vegas to win their first year though! I‘m just hoping for some good games. 1y

Another delightful and exciting installment for Constance Kopp!
I enjoy the dynamic between Constance and her sisters a great deal. It is written to be realistically supportive and nit-picky which those of us with siblings can relate to.
I appreciated hearing more about Mrs. Heath as well, allowing her character to become more three dimensional.

A worthy follow up to Girl Waits With Gun. This time Constance is trying to save her and the sheriff‘s job by tracking down a convict who had escaped on her watch.

The historical research is really thorough again. I have enjoyed the lively descriptions of the hustle and bustle of 1915 Brooklyn and New York, the little details of the lives of the Kopp sisters, the many issues women faced at the time.

Constance kicks ass again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This is the second in the Kopp Sisters series and falls short of the series debut. The story focuses on Constance Kopp as she begins her work as a deputy and finds herself dealing with obstacles that could be career ending for her and Sheriff Heath. The first book, Girl Waits With Gun”, was a good balance between the Kopp Sisters and Constance‘s new job. This follow up was bland compared to the first one. I will likely read the next in the series

This second book in the series was good fun, although I preferred the first book. I love Constance for her tenacity and grit. But there were a few times I had more empathy for her boss, Sheriff Heath. Amy Stewart blends fact, fiction, and social commentary once again. It‘s well worth a read or listen!

A change from the first in that this book is more focused on Constance's adventures than on the 3 sisters together. The family is more open these days, and more focused on their future. At the same time, Constance remains a modern woman and examines which changes will work & which changes won't work for them instead of fighting it. In that sense it's very much a continuation of the first story. It's also a lot of fun, and I gobbled it up in a day.

I also read two graphic novels in addition to this, and who knows what I'll get done in the next two days of being at home? Maybe you'll see an updated version on the 28th?
