I would describe this book as fine. It never wowed me, but it never disappointed me either. If you like mystery books, strong female leads, plucky characters, and LGBTQ+ and disabilities rep, give this one a try! I Read this for my out of genre bonus prompt for this year‘s #LGBTQBookBingo! #Mystery #StrongFemaleProtagonist #LGBTQ #LGBTQ2022

#MayMovieMagic Day 15: More than just blessed with a #SweetDisposition, HRC is born to lead. The story goes on to show her predisposition towards leadership and community service, as well as the many pivotal moments that inspired her. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-jrB

“There was a war...a long and bloody war between Oluan, Dragons, and humans.”

Book 1 of the Last Guardians Series, recently published in June 2018.

If you love books with magic and other worlds, strong female protagonists and complicated dragon folk, then you will love this series!

My little girl is devouring #SheilaOConnor‘s latest middle grade novel. So happy she joined our #MFA program‘s faculty, so I could find another great #strongfemaleprotagonist for my Kiddo.

AmberWB This sounds so good!!! Wrapping up the Viet Nam war with my students right now and in the mood to read something art in that time period! 6y
sarahjane1077 This is an epistolary novel, and the voices of the characters are just so distinct and real. The main character (Reenie) is spunky and precocious in only the best ways, and O‘Connor manages to talk about difficult things like the war and the draft without talking down to her readers. I‘m definitely reading the whole thing when Kiddo is done. Got to hear O‘Connor give a reading from it, and I was instantly hooked (and charmed.) 6y

Fun book! Duncombe has done a lot of research to find stories of female pirates throughout the ages, spanning from the Middle Ages to the Golden Age and modern-day society. She doesn't just focus on the West either. She speaks on the problems of glorifying piracy while also looking at the legends of women pirates, what may not be true when stories were recorded by men, & how gender roles affected the lives & stories of these women. ☠️⚔️💣

emilyesears Oooooo looks awesome! 7y
Andrea4 I'm finishing A Study in Charlotte today and starting this one!!! 7y
BookishFeminist @Andrea4 Awesome! I hope you like it as much as I did. How did you like A Study in Charlotte? I've been tempted to pick that up. 7y
Andrea4 @BookishFeminist I highly recommend A Study in Charlotte if you enjoy anything Holmes & Watson (admission: i have not read any Sherlock Holmes' stories and must remedy this), a young female heroine who is complicated, and/or seeing an author deal with the topic/repercussions of rape in a very authentic and unapologetic way. 7y

I love these books, and this one is no exception. Constance Kopp is the first female deputy sheriff in New Jersey. She's a spunky, powerful protagonist that takes things into her own hands but isn't without faults. I love the way historical fact is seamlessly woven into fiction, making her adventures fun but based in reality. I especially love that there is no romance subplot, an exhausting trope in mystery & historical fiction novels. 👮🏻‍♀️

coffeenebula Romance is exhausting in every genre! 7y
AmyStewart Yeah, I have zero interest in finding boyfriends for them. 7y
BookishFeminist @AmyStewart Yes! It's hard to find characters like that in books. I'm asexual so it feels really stifling when every other book has a romance subplot. Whether it's your intent or not, it's really validating, so thank you! 7y
AmyStewart @BookishFeminist yeah, I just don't think that romantic love is ever the solution to a problem. I mean, it's a wonderful thing in & of itself, but I don't find it interesting as a narrative arc. 7y

A sweet, fun, summer #palatecleanser. Some of the lines made me cringe a bit from the cheesiness, and there really aren't any surprises, but Dimple and Rishi and their love story was endearing. Indian culture and their relationships with traditonal parents is woven in well. #ya #diverseread #strongfemaleprotagonist #litsyatoz #letterM

This book is so inspiring! I think this would be a great book for all young girls to read. It talks about everything Hillary has accomplished as well as the struggles she came upon while being a woman in predominantly male professions. It doesn't try to push a certain political view, it just talks about Hillary's accomplishments. 💪💪💪💪/5 (4/5)

While in DC, I stopped into Kramerbooks and picked up these two wonderful books.
