Small Saul | Ashley Spires

2 ⭐This book was adorable. Small Saul wants nothing more than to be a pirate. But even after finishing pirate school, he doesn‘t have an easy life at sea. He‘s eventually kicked off his boat when the rest of the pirates realized how good they had it they go back and rescue Saul. While I like this book, I also do not like this book. I love that Saul chases his dream and makes the way he does things work into getting his dream.

LibrarianRyan However, this book shows Saul being constantly bullied by others for being different. And he takes it. He never stands up for himself. So, he is kicked off the boat and when the bullies come back going, oh, we shouldn‘t have done that he goes right back to being their best friends. I think the message in this book does not come out the way the author intended. I think there are two dueling messages one that was meant one that wasn‘t. And while I 3w
LibrarianRyan normally absolutely love this author‘s books, I think this one‘s a mess. This sounds more like a bully story where the bullies win then a story about being yourself. 3w

4.5 ⭐This book is adorable. It‘s about a ghost who instead of being a sheet is a quilt. It makes him move slower, makes them heavier, but it also makes them much cozier to the little girl that picks them up. There‘s another book in this series and I‘m looking forward to it. And the artwork while not completely black and white uses color sparingly so that way our quilt stands out. This book was a top read from first page to last.

TheLudicReader This author lives in my hometown. Her debut novel The Town That Drowned is excellent. She is an accomplished quilter, too. 1mo
LibrarianRyan Nice!! I‘ll check that out. 1mo

4 ⭐ Susan Verde and Peter Reynolds are a bestselling team for a reason. Their books are colorful and heartfelt and have an important message that all kids need to hear. The message in this book is that “I am me” no matter what. That everyone is different and that‘s exactly the way it should be. That everyone is unique and have the things that make them special. And that no matter who you are or how you look or how you act I am me and you are you

ROAR

Mr Tiger Goes Wild | Peter Brown

I think that this was a fun and silly book about Mr. Tiger finding who he is, when he is in a world that makes him conform against what he wants to do. He finds a happy medium between being comfortable in who he is as a tiger but also learning to balance the world around him.

Pickpick

Mr. Tiger Goes Wild is a picture book that tells the story of Mr. Tiger and how they live in a proper world of suits and manners. One day he decided that he is over the prim and proper world and rids himself of the manners and clothes of the proper world. This is a silly story with great illustrations, and how when he runs to the forest, he feels at home in the wild.

The book would make a good lesson on being different and embracing each other‘s differences. It could also be a good lesson on sometimes feeling the need to be wild and what we should do when that happens.
