It‘s commendable of Angie Thomas that she created a character who is three dimensional, with amazing strength and very human with wishes, regrets and traumas yet (or maybe because of this) she can be an inspiration for a whole generation. Even if one sees the struggles Starr's family faces the support you feel through every conversation makes you wish you see more families behaving exactly like hers when facing such insurmountable obstacles.
Reggie Totally, I loved how she pointed out the strength of the community that people never thought much of. Like the sandwich shop guy who gave sandwiches to kids who got good grades and to some kids who promised to do better. Great review!! 6y
dalma_st_paul @Reggie 🙏 Absolutely. The whole neighborhood was presented as a loving and supportive environment only broken by the economical and sociological struggle they had to face. Plus the humor was spot on! 🤣 6y
Reggie Lol, yeah, I loved the Harry Potter/gangs metaphor her dad was saying. 😂 6y

dalma_st_paul ? "Daddy claims the Hogwarts houses are really gangs. They have their own colors, their own hideouts, and they are always riding for each other, like gangs. Harry, Ron, and Hermione never snitch on one another, just like gangbangers. Death Eaters even have matching tattoos and look at Voldemort. They‘re scared to say his name. Really, that “He Who Must Not Be Named” stuff is like giving him a street name. That‘s some gangbanging shit right there" 6y
