Short novel about a Beijing man who builds stereo systems for a living and his struggles with love, family and money. It was…odd. I‘d give it a pick because it‘s short and strange. #boxwalla
I tried. I really did. But, unlike other Russian novels that I've enjoyed, this goes so deep into the Soviet political and war machines that I just couldn't get into it. It might work for someone else! #boxwalla
Ugliness, secrets and betrayals are the three words I use to describe this story. I didn‘t like the main character but I understood her. Worth a read! #boxwalla
I enjoyed this for the most part but the lengthy story-in-a-story was over the top...which I guess was the point. #boxwalla
Like other reviewers said, this reminded me of The Great Gatsby. I enjoyed it, but because I read it a few pages at a time over several weeks, I had difficulty remembering each character's storyline. There were so many characters with names beginning in M, E & F. I should have put together a cheat sheet! 😬 #boxwalla
Book mail came early today. Was this a #blameitonLitsy purchase? I can‘t remember but I don‘t know how else I would have heard of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this funny, clever, provocative novel. It‘s richly satirical but also full of complex, humane emotion. Brilliant.
