Pickpick

The last two books I‘ve read were written for young readers by Australian Aboriginal writers about the stolen generation which, for those not familiar with our history, involved the systematic removal of Aboriginal children from their families. This practice only ceased in the 1970s.

As we head into Australia Day, celebrated here on 26 January, I choose to share these stories with my 11 year-old. I would love to see them read more widely.

This quote from the Author‘s Note at the end of this quality young adult fiction, written by Palyku Pilbara (north Western Australia) Aboriginal writers who are siblings.

These stats are so high that “no family escaped the effects of forced removal”. 😢

Jeg I think I heard Sandra Hill say 4 generations of her family taken. And that she never let her own kids out of her sight. 3y
Freespirit I hope that this never happens again! 3y

Finishing reading this YA #ozfiction with this delicious lunch accompaniment 😋.

Racing through this ebook, already a third into it after a day or so of off and on reading.
Seems it's a mystery set in Australia involving the aboriginal story telling as well as the topic of the Stolen Generation.
Easy to read and follow. Loving it so far.

MrsMalaprop I‘m reading this too 👍🏼 3y

#12BooksOf2020

My other favourite #Ozfiction for the year

thegirlwiththelibrarybag This book is brilliant! I‘m so glad a library friend absolutely gushed about reading this because left to my own devices I probably wouldn‘t have picked it up. The audio is really good as well ☺️ (I‘ve been trying to convince myself that I can focus on audiobooks so have been easing myself in with books I‘ve read before) 3y
Andrew65 Love the cover. 3y
TrishB This looks good 👍🏻 3y
MrsMalaprop I was just in a bookshop in Dunsborough WA when I saw this book. I immediately did a Litsy search & found this review, which of course led me to buy it! Thanks 🙏👏. 3y

In case you were wondering what an SVU detective might be reading, here‘s a stack of recent books I‘ve been reading. The tagged book isn‘t in this picture but a really good one if you are interested in deception detection. Happy reading my friends. #truecrime #criminalinvestigation
