#wdncw because it‘s been a week & we‘re only halfway through.
A pleasant meander. Sort of an extended interview/conversation, using individual songs to talk either specifically about the story behind the song or some aspect of Dolly's life.
I'll admit to wishing the production had been a bit different: the beginnings of songs start the various conversations, and maybe it's a rights or length concern, but after a while you just find yourself wishing you could hear the whole song 1/?
I‘ve never been a country fan and could probably only name a handful of Dolly Parton songs, but I‘ve always loved her sense of humor, spunky attitude, and I‘ve always believed she was incredibly intelligent. The ways she‘s poured into her community and the children she‘s impacted through her Imagination Library are inspiring. This is a quick book and it‘s delightful on audio.
I love the inspiring message of this book, but it had just a tad too many YA tropes for my liking.
I think if I read this as a teenager I would have been much more impressed.
