I enjoyed the font and illustrations in this story. Each of the made up words were in a different color to place emphasis on them. The aliens looked very odd which was entertaining as well, and easy to tell they are aliens.

Baloney by Jon Sciezka RA is about an alien named Henry. He is an alien schoolkid who needs to come up with one very good excuse to explain why he is late for szkola, again. it‘s lifelong Detention. This SF story is such a fun twist on a children‘s book. The UDL is 2.1 clarify vocabulary and symbols. The EL is 2 promote cooperation in small groups. #UCFLAE3414SP20

Pickpick

This RF book- Caldecott Honor artist and bestseller, David Shannon talks about David whose actions cause him to get into trouble. He manages to come up with many excuses for his mistakes.
RA- because when children make mistakes they need to know how to say sorry and learn from those mistakes.

UDL- 9.3 Develop self-assessment and reflection
EL- encourage self-talk

Keishla.O I love all the David books! They were all the rave when I was in elementary school. This one is especially important because students do need to know when to say sorry. Thanks for reminding me of this great book! 4y
DrSpalding This is not fantasy. Using your genre flip guide, what genre do you believe it to be? David in the story is actually David the author. Reading is fundamental is a high-quality resource. Expand on this a bit and connect your universal design and English learner strategy to the resource. 4y
Brennap Yes! I read this when I was younger and loved this book. It is a great story to read to children so they can connect to and understand different themes within it! 4y

KarliCrean I remember that i used to LOVE to read David Shannon books as a little kid. One of my favorites is A Bad Case Of Stripes, if you haven‘t read that one yet i recommend (: 4y
LeahH UDL- 9.3 Develop self-assessment and reflection- students can see how they act and if they need to work on their behavior.
EL- encourage self-talk- talk about David and his actions. See if they relate

DrSpalding See my last comment for this book. Be sure to study your genres and better understand what makes realistic fiction versus fantasy. 4y

Nah. Totally confused my 7-year old, who is a smart kid. I hate when children's book authors write books to amuse themselves without any concern for whether it will make any sense to kids. Plus side...ummm...cute illustrations?

LibrarianRyan The illustrations are the only reason I have this book a thumbs up. 5y

The book is somewhat boring but shows a good lesson and the pictures are fun.
