Starting historical novel about Gettysburg in the Civil War. I am always into that era!
The historical novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara masterfully depicts the Battle of Gettysburg from June 29- July 3, 1863. Through character-driven narratives from both Union and Confederate perspectives, it explores themes of family, decision-making, friendship, and slavery. Vividly portrayed historical figures allow readers to connect with them, while the fictional format enhances the novel‘s appeal.
This was a wonderful read, but brutal in places. It‘s a coming-of-age tale about a boy searching for his father who is in the Confederate Army. He finds him at Gettysburg. The writing is pitch perfect as far as characters and their voices. There are spots where it‘s not for the faint of heart, but it was so worth it. And it was a Little Free Library find (and returned)! A surprising find, that I recommend!
