The Long Game: A Fixer Novel | Jennifer Lynn Barnes
post image

The Long Game is the first book since 2013 to go on my all time favorites. If there isn't a third book I might expire. From my Goodreads review:

"One million stars. I'm serious. Wow.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes writes a character I adore from page one of the first book, a cast of multi-faceted secondary characters all who have LAYERS, and a web of political intrigue and maneuvering that I cannot look away from."

Kristy_K I loved this book as well! Fingers crossed there is a third. 8y

London Belongs to Us | Sarra Manning

Happy New Year's Eve! Before welcoming 2017 I wanted to highlight my two favorite books of the year. London Belongs to Us is a wonderful teen contemporary that is deceptively simple. On the surface it's about a night-long adventure across London but along the way it highlights inherent racism still prevalent in the modern day city.

(The lights in the picture weren't super successful but my creativity is drained so 🙃.)

Undecided | Julianna Keyes
post image

I'm running out of days in 2016 to highlight my favorites so I'm doubling up today. My favorite romances this year were Undecided and Love, Chloe. I love Julianna Keyes. I find her romances refreshing and I'm so glad she dipped her toe in NA. This is not a love triangle despite the original cover (which I still prefer). Love, Chloe is unlike any other Alessandra Torre and I desperately want her to do another romantic comedy. #goodbye2016 #romantsy

raelaschoenherr I have Love, Chloe out from the library! Lauren Layne recommended it and I love all her books :) I read a tiny bit of it--it's a different format! 8y
MarriedtoMrT @raelaschoenherr I read that it was actually originally serialized in a magazine, I believe, so written a bit at a time and explains the format. The choppy writing does show through at times. I remember thinking that there was foreshadowing for things that didn't end up happening. I still loved it, mostly because it takes place over such a long period of time you get to see Chloe's growth and there's no insta-love. 8y
raelaschoenherr I'm so intrigued!! 8y

Rebel of the Sands | Alwyn Hamilton
post image

Rebel of the Sands was above and beyond my favorite fantasy book of the year and its sequel, Traitor to the Throne, is one of my most anticipated books of 2017. But I couldn't not mention Gemina, a solid and fun follow up to Illuminae, one of my favorites of 2015. And reading the Illuminae books made me realize maybe I do like sci-if space adventures and Starflight was a fun one! I'm looking forward to its sequel in 2017, too.

Places No One Knows | Brenna Yovanoff
post image

My 2016 favorites highlight for today are all of the fantastic teen contemporaries (and one magical realism and one Sherlock reboot) I read this year. I feel like this year was made for me on this front. Shuffle, Repeat was probably the most generic but each had something a little special about them. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I'm leaning toward Places but Girl vs U & The Only Thing Worse & It's Not Me tie for second. 😉

Kristy_K I think all of these are on my tbr for next year so I'm glad to see you liked them so much! 8y
MarriedtoMrT @Kristy_K You have a wonderful year of reading ahead of you! 8y

Gotham Academy Vol. 1: Welcome to Gotham Academy | Becky Cloonan, Benden Fletcher
post image

Litsy is 100% the reason I started reading graphic novels again. I used to dabble but hadn't read one in what felt like years. In just a few months I've read some really great titles but I think my favorite was Gotham Academy with great art and a plot that seemed made for me.

Second choice would likely go to Lady Killer, not pictured because I had borrowed it through ILL. The art is stunning and the morbid plot empowering.

The Raven Boys | Maggie Stiefvater
post image

I decided to count down the days left in 2016 by highlighting some of my favorite reads of the year. T-minus 5 days and counting!

Today's pick is my favorite new-to-me book: The Raven Boys. I've tried other Maggie Stiefvater books that just didn't work for me but this one clicked. I loved her characters. I loved her language. I loved the mythological feel to it all. I get warm fuzzy feelings thinking about this one!

MarriedtoMrT P.S. I returned a lot of these to the library (aka work) so I ran around taking a lot of book pictures at work today. 😉 8y

Chachic I enjoyed this one but my favorite of hers is The Scorpio Races! 8y
josie281 Oh I swoon over The Raven Boys! I tried Shiver and it was a no go for me. 8y
MarriedtoMrT @Chachic The Scorpio Races is one that I tried two or three times and couldn't get into. I wanted to but I couldn't. 😔 8y
MarriedtoMrT @josie281 I have Shiver on my shelf but have never read it. I'm a bit afraid to try. 8y
josie281 @MarriedtoMrT I had the audiobook through Hoopla and the narrators were too breathy to be able to get into the story. 8y
Chachic Oh no, sorry to hear The Scorpio Races didn't work out for you! 8y
Deebee I loved TRC, really enjoyed The Scorpio Races but could not get into Shiver at all. 8y
