My one-word review: Wow. This was my first time reading N.K. Jemisin, and I‘m glad I started here. Short stories are a great way to get a feel for an author‘s range of genres, styles, and themes. And Jemisin‘s got serious range! I love the mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and even foodie fic (is that a thing?). Her strong narrative voice pulls me in, and her haunting, thought-provoking stories stay with me.

I'm not normally a short story person, but after loving the broken earth trilogy from this author, had to give it a try. And boy was I not disappointed! I can't decide which was my favourite story, they were all 5 stars. I'm sure this book has spoiled me for other short story collections, but has made me want to try others regardless

I kept reading short story collections for #keepingitshort. I #readBlackwomen only in February! I read diversely and read some really enjoyable books! I‘m counting this year as a bookish win!
