#lasttenbooks @vivastory

Thanks for this really fun prompt, Scott! 💕📚

📖 1. Last Book I gave up on: that new Joyce Carol Oates book! 😩 I just cannot with her writing! I have tried and tried to enjoy her as an author but I think it's time I finally throw in the towel!

📖 2. Last Book I reread: I'm currently (and foolishly!) rereading the whole Stormlight Archive again before the next book comes out in December. Send thoughts and prayers! 😂

Branwen 3 📖 Last Book I bought: A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay! I loved his newest book so much I decided to go back and try one of his older works! 3d
Branwen 4 📖 Last Book I said I read but didn't: NO! I never do this! 5 📖 Last Book I wrote in the margins of: Devotions by Mary Oliver! I really just love her writing so much! 3d
Branwen 6 📖 Last Book I had signed: Of Jade and Dragons! My newest Illumicrate book! 7 📖 Last Book I lost: One time I left one of my copies of Mrs. Dalloway in a hotel while on vacation! 😭 3d

Branwen 8 📖 Last Book I had to replace: My original mass market paperback copy of Good Omens finally fell to pieces and I had to get a new one! 🫠 9 📖 Last Book I cried over: The new Lois Lowry book - Tree Table Book. 10 📖 Last Book I couldn't find: My copy of But her & Blackbird! And then I remembered I had loaned it to a co-worker to read! 😂 3d
Ruthiella I actually find it encouraging that there are at least a few books/authors you don‘t like to read. 😂 You read so much and so widely! 3d
Branwen @Ruthiella Oh my goodness, thank you so much! 🥹 That is such a kind thing to say! 💕 Especially since I often do feel a twinge of shame for not enjoying Joyce Carol Oates as an author. I know she's a great author, and so many people love her, I just have never been able to enjoy any of her books! The other big name author that I really don't enjoy is Nicholas Sparks! 🙈 3d
vivastory I do like JC Oates, but I admit that I DNF'd the last book of hers I started “Neon Nights.“ Which book did you try? Good luck w/ yr Stormlight project!! Headful of Ghosts was the first Tremblay that I read. Enjoyed seeing your answers! 3d
mcctrish I‘m with you and Nicholas Sparks 😫 I love this prompt ❤️ 2d
mcctrish I‘ve only read ( and I did love it) (edited) 2d
Branwen @vivastory It was her most recent book, Butcher. It came in the library and I thought I would give her ONE last try....alas! I gave up about 40 pages in! The one before that that I absolutely hated was the Hazards of Time Travel. It was just awful! 😩 I really wish I could get into her writing! 2d
Branwen @mcctrish I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Nicholas Sparks! 🥳🎉 2d

Adding my #LastTenBooks to the discussion. I couldn‘t finish King Lear when we read it in my college Shakespeare class, so I watched the movie adaptation over Christmas break 😬
I don‘t know that I‘ve ever lost or couldn‘t find a book that I own? My house is … small.

Thanks for posting! Fun.

Part 2/2 #lasttenbooks

Actually, in terms of books I passed on and then regretted it and bought a new copy of, the last one I re-bought was Station Eleven. They were changing the cover and I kinda liked the old one.

Also, I replaced my copy of A Little Life because I wanted the original UK cover before it became obsolete.

I'm always arguing about books, but I remember proper disagreements about Nod by Adrian Barnes at a book club long ago.

vivastory #8 😂 (Me in a used bookstore “Do I own this?“) 2w
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory The amount of times I've accidentally duplicated purchases 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ (I have occasionally been known to buy a second copy just because I've loved a new cover too 🤭) 2w
vivastory @RaeLovesToRead A new cover is 100% valid IMO 2w
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory Yes! This is what I keep trying to tell people... I hope that soon I can get my own place so that I can properly display them 😊 2w

Great prompts @vivastory
Part 1/2 #lasttenbooks

Let me say this... once I've properly started a book, I hardly ever DNF it.

Swallows and Amazons is the exception.

Also, I didn't really "lie" about Harry Potter 5... I read most of it, but didn't finish in time for the film. Then I just... didn't bother with the rest. It's still on my Goodreads "read" shelf though...

Shame on me!!!!! Shame!!!!

vivastory Happy to see your answers! I'm with you on the DNF. I like the term that we have agreed upon on Litsy for books that are put to the side because the time isn't right but we might return to is “hibernating“ but there are DEFINITELY books that I DNF. I very rarely DNF a book & what is funny is that typically it will be so close to the end of the book that I will either look online & read the ending or just skim read the last few pages. Funny (CONT) (edited) 2w
vivastory enough I did start Swallows & Amazons last summer & put it to the side. Not sure if it's hibernating or a DNF. 2w
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory It was one of the few books that I genuinely thought "life is too short" while reading it. Apparently there is a whole series of them. Gave my copy to charity. I think if I'm going to be reading old kids books I'll re-read Nancy Drew or The Magic Faraway Tree. Books where stuff happens. 2w

Thanks for sharing the prompt, @vivastory #lasttenbooks

vivastory Terrific answers! Dorothy Parker is timeless! I have a few poems memorized & I have had a few people in my life be surprised by that, but I think that Parker is a great example of a writer whose work you could memorize & carry with you with not too much effort. 2w
TheBookHippie @vivastory I love her so. ♥️ 2w

vivastory I admire your shelf organization! 😂 Love your answers, esp #4 & #9. Your answer to 9 seems to embody the spirit of Litsy 2w

@vivastory ⬇️

Aimeesue 8. Last Book I had to Replace: I guess that will be Riddley Walker (edited) 2w
Aimeesue 9. Last Book I Argued Over: I don‘t really argue over books, so that is lost to the mists of time. 2w
Aimeesue 10. Last Book I Couldn‘t Find: I know where all my books are, so the only books I can‘t find are the ones my library hasn‘t acquired yet or that there‘s a wait list for, so maybe You Like it Darker? I think that‘s the last hold I placed. (edited) 2w

vivastory Rebecca 💙 Riddley Walker is on my TBR., I loved Hoban's Turtle Diary. I also have Everett's “James“ is waiting on my shelves. I'm curious, are you going to revisit Huck Finn beforehand? I can't wait to read the new King, but plan on reading this King story collection beforehand (edited) 2w
Aimeesue @vivastoryDef going to re- read Huck Finn before James. Everett tucks a lot of references into his books, and I don‘t want to miss them. I love, love, love Riddley Walker for the language - such a thrill when you GET it! Any King is good King as far as I‘m concerned. Love his shorter stuff! (edited) 2w
vivastory @Aimeesue I am a bit tempted to revisit Huck Finn. I remember when I read it in middle school that I did not care for it, but I have since read other Twain writings & really enjoyed them esp. 2w
Aimeesue @vivastory Twain was so witty! I enjoy his stuff. Everett said that he read HF fifteen times in a row before writing James. And now he will never pick it up again 😂 2w
Tamra I‘m so enjoying Secret Voices! 2w
Aimeesue @Tamra it‘s really excellent! 1w

I found the following circulating on a few book blogs & thought it would be fun to post here. #LastTenBooks I'd love to see your answers, too!
1)Last Book I Gave Up On:
Michael Wilson's “Girl In The Video.“ This is what I wrote in my reading journal: Just couldn't care anymore. Even if I had only 10 more pages. I could have lied & said that I finished it. This was lurking in the kindle graveyard & as King said, “sometimes dead is better.“
2 (CON)

vivastory 2)Last Book I Re-Reread:
Gaiman's Fragile Things (A favorite this year that I had originally read Oct. 2018)
3)Last Book I Bought:
Richard Swan's “The Justice Of Kings.“ (Bk 1 of a fantasy trilogy that I have heard high praises from booktubers that I trust)
4)Last Book I Said I Read But I Didn't:
I don't believe in guilty pleasures, so this one doesn't really apply
5)Last Book I Wrote In The Margins Of:
James Baldwin's “Price Of The Ticket“

(edited) 2w
vivastory 6)Last Book I Had Signed:
I just received an order from B&N for Johnson's “Let's Go Play At The Adams“ signed by Grady Hendrix w/ a note “Enjoy the trauma“ Lol
7)Last Book I Lost
I have been in a mood for thrillers this week & while looking I could not find Raybourn's “Killers Of A Certain Age“
8) Last Book I Had To Replace
A few months ago I checked out a graphic novel that for the life of me I could not find when it was due, so I replaced it
(edited) 2w
vivastory 9) Last Book I Argued Over:
I don't really argue over books. I see that different books serve various purposes for different readers at stages in their lives.
10)Last Book I Couldn't Find:
Y'all, I have been meaning to get a better organizational method in my library for awhile now but it will be a project that would make Marie Kondo cry. I think the last book I couldn't find was “Killers Of A Certain Age“ bc I'm not giving it up for lost lol

LeahBergen I love what Hendrix signed! 😆 2w
vivastory @LeahBergen It was a nice surprise. I had no idea that it would be signed. 2w
RaeLovesToRead Awesome! I am 100% answering these questions!!! 2w
sarahbarnes Sometimes dead is better 😁 1w
Branwen This is fantastic! I'm definitely going to do this too! Thanks for posting! 💜 Also I snorted at the fact that your reorganization project will bring Marie Kondo to tears! 😂 7d
vivastory @Branwen Looking forward to yr answers! 5d
