2. I don't have one specifically, but hoping to finish several that I've had outstanding.

I‘ve followed Rusty Sabich through several legal murder mysteries, and here he is again defending his fiancée‘s son who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. I don‘t love these books, but the characters seem real and the story always moves along. We don‘t find out what actually happened in this one until page 526 out of 534, even tho I saw it coming. A soft pick, well written but forgettable.
This is full of shady high-power lawyers, pharmaceutical companies, and stock investors making as many millions as possible while a bad drug is exposed, regardless of the impact a drug has to a patient. I wanted to be done - gratuitous spending and money-grabbing is all kinds of ick. Yet, I was surprising intrigued by Washington DC public defender Clay pulled into that world and finding his way out.

2nd bk from a series curated by bernadine evaristo of modern black Br writers. This was a compelling legal thriller set in the 90s abt a talented black female criminal barrister from a working class background. When a lucrative corporate fraud bruef is given to her, she is subject to prejudice from members of the bar but of more concern an affluent client who seems too good to be true. A page turner. Will look for more from the author + the series
I was equal parts entertained by this book and entertained by being entertained. How did JG have me root for a lawyer faking his own death leaving wife and child while funneling $90 million (1992 dollars) from his slimy law partners!? Then after 4 years he orchestrates his own arrest. I dunno, but it was good and I didn‘t give thought to this contemporary fiction being 28 years old!

This is a debut thriller and wow it was good. I always worry about an author's first book being just a tad short of what I expect but this one was SO GOOD. I did figure out what was going on fairly early on but it didn't take away from the book at all. I could have been wrong. I wasn't.

What an amazing debut - you will not be able to put this book down.
It is well written and will knock you right out of the jury box. :)
Courtroom drama at its best.
