The Rooster Bar | John Grisham

I liked the book but at times it was a little far fetched! As someone with student loans I did understand the characters desperate and frustrating feelings.

Initially, I wasn‘t super excited about this book. David has a breakdown one morning at work as he‘s tired of working non-stop for a high-end law firm. He impulsively leaves his fancy job and takes up with a small firm of two attorneys who have some seriously questionable ethics in their practice. The legal case involves big pharma and their questionable drug. As the story progressed, I really liked David and was rooting for him. #MountTBR

The bartender at my local watering hole gave me this next read after we once discussed our favourite books. 🍺 A Grisham I haven‘t yet read - very exciting! #whatiread #tbr

I have never read a John Grisham novel before! I've always had this feeling that he's an author you have to read at least once, probably because he's been around forever.
I got a big bag filled with books from a neighbor and most of them by Grisham, so I'm starting with this one.

🎧 I recently read an interesting review of Thirteen which is the 3rd book in this series. I like to start at the beginning of series. This is book 1 & it didn‘t disappoint. The narrator was a good choice for Eddie. It‘s about a con artist who becomes a lawyer then shortly after he quits his kid‘s kidnapped and he‘s forced to help the Russian mob in a court trial. Eddie‘s not an angel but it‘s clear he‘ll do anything to keep his kid safe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Needless to say, I think we rarely value our freedom to move about uninhibitedly until that freedom is curtailed.

I‘ve never read or listened to a John Grisham book before. I‘ve seen some of the movies based on his work, so I‘m familiar with him. I listened to this one on Libby for our Friends of the Library meeting that‘s coming up as it was this month‘s book. It was alright. It held my interest since it was a quick read. But it wasn‘t awesome. And it doesn‘t encourage me to seek out his other work.

marleed I‘ve realized I read a lot of female authors. I also like to change up my genres because I get super nitpicks when I read too much of the same type book. I‘ve realized a Grisham is a good book to mix it up. 4w
Ericalambbrown @marleed I typically have at least one fiction and one nonfiction going at the same time. This year I‘ve made a point to focus on female writers that I‘ve never read (that‘s made for a great year!). Would recommend other Grisham books? Like I said this was my first and it was just okay for me. (edited) 4w
marleed @Ericalambbrown I am surrounded by piles of book thrifting options in my new (1.5 year) location. I discovered that thrifting prolific authors for 2 bucks a pop is easy. So in a year, I went from no JG books to over 20! It wasn‘t until this October that I really tackled that stack. I didn‘t love any that I read, but they were something more than a meh. I‘m still thinking about The Street Lawyer. 3w
