Fortunately, yes. Many in fact. The ones that really stand out to me were: Anne Rice, Diana Gabaldon, Sylvia Day, Lisa See, Victor Villaseñor, Gary Soto, and Sandra Cisneros.

In this fabulous graphic memoir, Pedro Martín recounts the time when he was 12 and his entire family—including 8 siblings—travelled in a motorhome from California to the Mexican state of Jalisco in order to bring his grandfather home to live with them. Adventures, misadventures, and poignant scenes too. I loved it. #MiddleGrade #comics for all ages.

Falls into the precocious kids coming of age genre. I struggle with this genre because it‘s hard to pull off while still seeming genuine. Sal, Sam, and Fito are great characters and so is Sal‘s adoptive father Vicente. The book shines as they patiently help each other navigate hard times, but Sal‘s narration reads more like a message Saenz is trying to get out than a real teenage boy‘s perspective. Sweet, if heavy-handed, I still give it a pick.
