My pick for August is tagged. I also loved Book Woman. I read it for work bookclub and then found out I read the wrong book. 😂 The rest were picks as well.

My August Bookly report. It was a slow reading month for me.
5 Stars • Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry follows retired Texas Rangers Augustus "Gus" McCrae and Woodrow Call as they lead a cattle drive from Texas to Montana in the 1870s. With a diverse crew, including young Newt Dobbs and tracker Joshua Deets, they face Indian raids, bandits, and harsh terrain. The epic journey explores friendship, duty, and the fading Old West, culminating in bittersweet success with heavy losses.
The book follows Elsa who lives on the great plains with her family and zones into the migrant experience of this particular environmental disaster.
I didn't know about the dust bowl and while I didn't feel any real bond with the characters, I was really interested in the events in both Texas and the migration to California. The government's response, action and the Communist movement really did draw me in.
25-5. A little slow to start, but by the half-way point I couldn‘t put it down. I learned a lot about the Dust Bowl and Okies and California work camps 🤯.
Lordy, Mary Dell and her family go through some rough times (some of their own making) during the year or so in the book. However, the book leaves you feeling good as things work out and the bad guys are put in their place.
I liked this, but I found it horribly depressing and sad. Normally I don‘t mind books like that, but it felt really heavy and I was kind of glad to be done so that I could move on to something else.
This isn‘t a new series, but it‘s new to me. I‘m so excited to dive into an long series set in the National Parks.
Enjoying some strawberry basil lemonade and a mystery/thriller. I love quiet Saturday afternoons.
