⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️halfway through I was thinking “wow, Monroe was amazing!”&then I realized that Unger might be a bit of a Monroe super-fan, which helped me read more critically.Monroe was still a fascinating character-he began his presidency running unopposed, but by the end of his 2 terms, he was viewed as a relic of an old time. Some of the most interesting bits were about his wife who rescued the wife ofLafayette from a French prison after the revolution!

Crazeedi Looks like a book for me to read! 2y

Whilst sitting here reading I just realized today is Missouri‘s 200th birthday. On August 10th, 1821 President James Monroe signed the legislation making Missouri the 24th state. Happy Birthday, MO!

Ericalambbrown @fredthemoose I liked this one, too! 1y
fredthemoose @Ericalambbrown Wish I would have seen this a couple of years ago—according to Goodreads I didn‘t think much of the Monroe biography I read… 1y

#Movie2BookRecs #emmawatson 28. So apparently Emma Watson was in this movie. I thought the movie was blah, but the book was pretty good. I‘ve heard it‘s not really true but oh well.

DivineDiana The book sounds interesting. Love a Hollywood story! According to the description, it is a biography, so sounds as if it is true. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y

So we‘ve always been a ridiculous sort of folk. 😂🇺🇸

This bit is from the very beginning of chapter 6, which opens discussing the yellow fever outbreak in 1793.

Growing up in Britain meant I didn‘t really know much about American history prior to World War Two. […] What I knew about James Monroe before reading this new biography of his life could fit on the proverbial back of a postage stamp. I‘d heard of the Monroe Doctrine, but couldn‘t tell you what it was and, if pressed, I could probably tell you that of course he must have something to do with the capital of Liberia...

5⭐️

I‘ve always been fascinated by the idea of Marilyn Monroe. This book really made me see her in a whole different light. Future MM reading/audio will definitely be done later.

Birdsong28 Read this one as this is considered the best biography on her 5y
Birdsong28 And this considers how biographies have shaped our perception of Marilyn . Sorry for spamming you but I did my Dissertation on her so I have read quite a few books on her. 5y
DieAReader @Birdsong28 I don‘t consider this spam by any means! I‘ve always wanted to read about Marilyn & it‘s because of a book my grandfather owned. I inherited it, but because my French language comprehension is horrid, I‘ve never tried to read it. Any recommendations are always welcome!! Thank you so much!! 5y
