I‘ve had this on my shelf for a few years now (a friend in grad school used it to teach under grads creative writing and encouraged me to read it). I figure if I‘m going to do this national novel writing month thing, I should probably try to prepare myself. lol So, here goes nothing.

GingerAntics Now if I could just decide which idea I want to explore in November. 6y
wanderinglynn Will this be your 1st NaNoWriMo? 😀 I‘m wanderinglynn on NaNo too. 6y
GingerAntics @wanderinglynn yes, I heard about it from someone on here, possibly you. I remember that it was someone who has the same user name on both. Did you post something about it, or have a conversation about it in the comments of a post a few months back? (edited) 6y

wanderinglynn Quite possibly that was me as I am wanderinglynn on NaNoWriMo too. Welcome! It‘s a ton of fun. 😀 6y
GingerAntics @wanderinglynn it certainly sounds like it. I‘ve never written with a community, so the idea seems awesome to me. 6y
jmofo @GingerAntics I‘m Jessie Mofo on NaNo! I‘m looking for some community too. @CocoReads is involved too, and some other folks. No doubt there will be more posting the closer we get. Welcome and good luck! 🤘 6y
CocoReads I‘m trying to decide if I have the time this November—I‘ve switched jobs and right now my hours are full time plus trying to study for my certification. I think my hours will drop sometime in Nov but I‘m not sure. I‘ll probably sign up anyway even if I don‘t finish. I do think it‘s a lot of fun 6y
GingerAntics @wanderinglynn @jmofo @CocoReads of course now that I‘m like “great I need a new idea” I‘m over here thinking about this thing I started writing about 10 years ago now and thinking “what if his dad hadn‘t died?” Do I have to know what I‘m writing about while I‘m writing it? lol 6y
CocoReads @GingerAntics I don‘t really plan mine out—I start with a vague idea and let the characters choose their way. Which, I admit, sometimes gets me into trouble but I say write what comes, you can always edit later 6y
wanderinglynn No. I never plan—I‘m what they call a pantster (writing by the seat of my pants). Some years I barely have an idea. I just start writing on Nov. 1. 6y
wanderinglynn @CocoReads Even if you don‘t get to 50k, you will still generate some good stuff. Several years I haven‘t “won”, but I still had some good writing, good ideas, plus the creativity just helps spur other areas of my life. ☺️ 6y
CocoReads @wanderinglynn this is only my second November. I did both the April and July camps though and really had a great time 6y
GingerAntics @CocoReads @wanderinglynn oh, it‘s only 50k. For some reason I thought it was 100k. Okay that makes me feel better. I have two different, fairly random ideas. Reading Wonderbook has actually made me start thinking about changing up the other story entirely. I‘m pretty sure that‘s cheating, though. 6y
CocoReads Not cheating at all! 6y
GingerAntics @CocoReads technically it IS a different story. 😏🤔 Same characters, totally different story. (edited) 6y
CocoReads That‘s all that matters. 6y
GingerAntics @CocoReads alright, then GAME ON!!! 6y
jmofo @GingerAntics The hope is to write. Starting fresh makes it easier to start fresh next time but it isn‘t a requirement. I‘m working on a story I started in 2011 and have been working on this year. Some years I have a whole new story, other times, I‘m just putting time in with an old project. @CocoReads Good luck! (I thought you had more years since you were such a good coordinator!) (edited) 6y
