Soulful and raw, wise and whimsical, Something in the Woods Loves You is a memoir of severe depression, therapy and recovery, and the transformative power of our relationship with nature—a living invitation of kinship with and inspiration from the world around us. A new all-time favorite, full of passages I underlined to return to in times of need—highly recommended for fans of Mary Oliver!

Yes, yes it does. And I love this book. A favorite read this year, and of all time. Mental illness and potentially triggering but my oh my did I love these words. So many passages to highlight throughout.

Nature is healing. 🤍
Highly recommended.

squirrelbrain Sounds wonderful - stacking! And I love your flowers - are they echinaceas/ coneflowers? 3d
JamieArc I‘m so glad you read this and posted it. I loved it as well. I almost never reread books, but this one is worth returning to. @squirrelbrain I hope you do read this book. If I remember, one of the chapters revolves around squirrels 😊 3d

Chelsea.Poole @squirrelbrain yes! Coneflowers—they are absolutely taking over my back garden. Which is a good thing, mostly. 😊 And yes! There‘s a chapter on squirrels, one of the many sections set 30 minutes from home, at the university where my husband works which made me love it that much more. I could go on and on about this book! @JamieArc same here, I never reread but this is one I‘d like to own to revisit often. It‘s life affirming. 2d
TheKidUpstairs I've got this one on hold at the library, I think it's almost my turn! Pretty sure it was @JamieArc 's suggestion that made me put it on hold, glad to hear your love it too! 2d
JamieArc @TheKidUpstairs I‘m pretty sure I mentioned it in our email chain because I thought @monalyisha would really appreciate it. I‘ll look forward to seeing what you think too, Megan 😊 2d

A full moon will rise in the part of the sky that is opposite sunset for that day. A full moon rises well south of east in midsummer and north of east in midwinter. It will set approximately opposite sunrise direction for that day also.

Meteors have a relationship with time and direction. You are likely to see more shooting stars after midnight than before, because this is when your part of Earth is facing “forward“ as it moves in its orbit around the sun.

Yet for all its cultural luminescence, Polaris is only the forty-eighth brightest star in the sky. It stands out because it is the brightest star in its patch of the sky. If you see two stars of similar brightness close to each other you cannot be looking at the North Star, which always appears to be the only one of comparable brightness in its immediate vicinity.

The southern side of painted objects fade faster than the northern side. I have seen this in varied locations, from footpath signs in France that had paled on one side, to bleached oil drums in the desert. Some things will show this solar effect more quickly than others. Over the course of a single day, moist dung will dry more quickly on its southern side.

Growing numbers of solar panels on roofs will be ignored by most, but they offer help to observant navigators: There is not much point in a solar panel that faces north in the northern hemisphere, so, wherever possible, they face south.

I gave it an extra star just for the exceptional artwork throughout the book. This gorgeous story is about how branches are in our lives every day, from nature, animals to ourselves. At the end is information how branches affect our world. Just lovely.

I loved Harding‘s nature illustrations showing us the changes in nature through the seasons.

Along with most of the illustrations is also snippets i to her life
