I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written, literary cozy, with a finely woven mystery and a truly admirable heroine. The second in the atmospheric Bess Crawford mystery series, set in England and France during WWI. Excellent reading.

This was my #ReadOrDonate selection for August. I‘m so glad I finally got around to reading it!

Great story of those who served and suffered. Especially moving story of our brave women vets who served before female service was recognized.

“This was their task: find a new way to survive. Hope was what kept you putting one foot in front of the other. Hope was what kept you laying down your head at night and rising from your cot the next morning.”

Starting this one soon.

I didn‘t know much about the Vietnam war and this was very educational. Plus, the character development was exceptional. I was very invested in Frankie and her friendships. The reality that women veterans had to face after the war is infuriating and heartbreaking. It also had a very satisfying ending, but I felt the beginning was too long and the ending too rushed. The main character finally finds her place and it was completely rushed through.

It took me a while to find this because it doesn‘t come up as “The Women” or under the author. Hopefully the admin will change the name? I put a request to add it.

I liked this book. It told a different story about WWII that I didn't know about. The people in this book were great. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.

My favourite read in Novembers for #12Booksof2024 was this latest book by Heather Morris.

This tells the story of women taken prisoner by the Japanese in World War II and the horrific time they had in the far East Prison camps. This one has all the feels and think I even prefer it to the her European prison camp books.

Also a notable mention for The Templar Secret by Scott Mariani, the last book in one of my favourite all time series - Ben Hope.

I settled into this knowing I was reading a Christmas love story and forgetting there was a mystery involved. I was probably 2/3 in when I realized oh, wait a minute is this going to happen (insert spoiler here)… Well, yes that deed indeed go down, and yet it‘s still an RPE HEA. …I do love reading his little books this month even though it destroys my GR average page count for the year 😄

DogMomIrene Good to see someone else pays attention to that GR page average. I‘ve actually read several kid‘s illustrated books that I‘m not reviewing or I may post a review with no dates to keep my numbers up. Ohh, my OCD tendencies🤦🏻‍♀️ 11mo
marleed @DogMomIrene 🤣🤣 And unless I change up my reading stack, I don‘t have a single chunkster in the plans to compensate for all my tiny reads this month! 11mo
