pickI originally read this book when it first came out, when I was very angry. This book spoke to me in obvious ways. I also rather like that Dumbledore was supportive of Harry. Instead of telling Harry not to be angry or trying to placate him, Dumbledore told Harry it was natural and perfectly fine to be angry.

GingerAntics Dumbledore even gave Harry more reason to be angry and seemed perfectly fine with the possibility that Harry might be so angry he would attack Dumbledore. That was pretty much the opposite response to anger I‘ve ever seen. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y
GingerAntics When we started reading this I was actually much happier. About the time I got to the really angry bits at the end, I was rather angry again. As last time, this book really spoke to me. Unlike last time, instead of giving me new ways to express my anger, it actually soothed my anger a bit. Am I still pissed? Yup. Do I still have a right to pissed? Yup. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y
GingerAntics Am I going to scream about it? Nope. This time around, when I felt like I was Harry in this one for the angry bit, I also felt like Harry for the bit where Dumbledore actually calmed him down by acknowledging that his anger was legitimate. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y

GingerAntics For the second time in my life, I read this book at just the right time in my own human experience, and for the second time, it changed my perspective. All of the books in this series are really good and I love each one for different reasons, but I think this one has to be my favorite book of the series on a personal level. #potteraday #HarryPotter #OrderOfThePhoenix #JKRowling @Linsy 4y
Linsy @GingerAntics The way you expressed that was powerful. So many times as a kid I was told to hide and control my feelings, but no one ever acknowledged that I had a right to be angry. This book spoke to me in ways that adults in my life never came close to. I love Dumbledore's response to Harry. He doesn't act like he's a monster or anything, just acknowledges his feelings. It reminds me of Jo March in Little Women. So many times ⬇⬇⬇ 4y
Linsy I've felt like the hero in books -- or in the stories those around me wanted to emulate -- were not angry. Or, if they were, it was righteous anger and they used it constructively. Sometimes, it's just corrosive and painful and we don't know what to do. It's taken me just about thirty years of life to learn that it doesn't make me a monster to feel that rage. GingerAntics @Linsy exactly!!! It‘s taken me about 30 years to figure that out and I still feel like a monster still sometimes. I wonder if I can cross stitch Dumbledore‘s advice about Harry‘s anger into a pillow or something. Make it my “I‘m really ephing pissed off” mantra. 🤣😂🤣 4y
GingerAntics @Linsy I totally get that. My anger always made it hard for me to full connect with characters even when I saw myself in them, but Harry changed all that. As an adult, I see the value in controlling your anger (you don‘t want to scream at children or yell at your boss), but there is nothing wrong with being angry and sometimes you just need to get it all out, and that is perfectly fine, too (just after the kids are away and you‘ve left work). 4y
