Movie: The Woman in Black
I enjoyed that the attention was way more on all the various people in this town. I did not like that there had to be romantic feelings between Freya and her intendent. The murderer is suddenly revealed at about 400/550 pages in. And that's that. The ending was a bit disappointing, it kind of sizzled out.
549 pages; TBR since 7/7/2019.
The draw for me with this series, is how Simon changes over time, his relationships, his family dynamics, his job, his attitude. The mysteries are good, and complex and things don't always get resolved, but that's fine.

I do love this series. Simon is so fascinating, maddening and way too much like me, alas.
I really, really enjoyed this book; now I have a whole new series to get wrapped up in. I‘ve only read Hill‘s literary memoir, HOWARD‘S END IS ON THE LANDING. She is a gifted writer!
This translates into a very literary police procedural that is more about each of the characters, including the victims, than it is about the actual murders. More please! Thank you @Adventures-of-a-French-Reader for recommending! #hoopla
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
Chosen by my mystery book club, this book was a great discovery. I felt it was a far more realistic depiction of police work than most of the books out there. Very well written. Susan Hill sets perfectly the decor for the series, at the end of this book, we really get a clear image of the community of Lafferton.

I would like to thank NetGalley & The Overlook Press for an advanced copy of A Change of Circumstance by Susan Hill for honest review. This is the 11th installment of the Simon Serrailler series. I have read the whole series thus far & can honestly say that it is one of my favorite series that I look forward to reading. Susan Hill is a master of characterization and storytelling.
Another fabulous series I discovered this year. It‘s an exceptionally literary mystery series with an unusual detective at the center. The mystery itself was a good one, with certain aspects made clear from the beginning, but the ending was VERY unexpected. Another book crossed off my #BookSpinBingo list!
