I've been MIA for a few months, because of tiredness, breaking a foot and then having a babygirl on the 14th of december (not related😂). Her name is Maeve. Looking forward to picking things up again. I'd like to start with #bookspin, let's see how I get on. Here's my bingocard and as usual I'm just reading bookspin and doublespin. I've made a whole new list. I was tired of the old one. New year, new list.

I've read some crazy books, but this was... indescribable. A good book, but damn were those characters horrible and some a bit dumb. Felt exasperated here and there. The things that went on, unpunished.. Kate Bush' song was perfect, it fit so well and gave me some much needed lightness to persevere. They're not pretty, but I do enjoy the Penguin Popular Classics.

I hate to review this book, because the author died so recently and this seems to have been the reason for publishing this book. I am going to do it anyway.
The book was okay. On the whole all the stories were average. If I hadn't read it, I don't think I would have missed anything. I think the popularity of this book is mostly due to her tragic death. The reader questions felt pretentious.

I must admit I enjoyed this book more than the regular books in the series and it's because of Abigail. A feisty, fun girl with heart and brain in a good place. Glad to read this, because I may have gotten a bit tired of the running story in the main books.

Found this too at the bookmarket in Deventer. I remembered people enjoyed it and this also turned out to be the first in the series, so yay for me. Read it immediately.

I wanted to read a book by James Rollins for so long and then also in order please. Got this book at the biggest bookmarket of Europe, in the Netherlands in Deventer. Bought it and read immediately. This was fun, an adventure story. Reminded me of Indiana Jones. I didn't like the romance, I think it's unnecessary and bookfiller. Still a pick though.

I found this a very interesting non-fiction about the cold cases of the New York Cold Case squad. Some are solved, some still need that one piece of evidence that will solve the case and give the detectives rest. And in more recent cases also family and friends. Politics has a place here too. I tried to find out what has happened with this squad. Has it been absorbed into other divisions? The politics sounded inhuman.

I've enjoyed the story. I quite soon guessed what the difficulty was in this murder case and what the solution was. Some characters behaviours annoyed me. I also don't like how when two people have dates it always starts and ends with sex. Where is the depth? So annoying. I would love to read a thriller without alcoholism, sexism, or sex.

This was my May #bookspin. I enjoyed the story, which I didn't expect. The story was a bit different as the main murders don't get solved. The person who really did it, is never questioned by the police and isn't punished at all. I think this might be more like how police work really is. Sometimes things look connected, but aren't.

This has not much to do with this book. Although I read it in preparation of the good news I received today. So here it is and I need to share!
I am trying to become a single mother by choice. I already have a 12 yo daughter with an ex-partner. Anyway, I had to wait almost 2 years until it was my turn at a clinic. Today I got the call that it's my turn and I am excited! Next year I might have a baby. Without difficult parenting plans with a man.

Better than the negative reviews I read. I thought her story was plausible, but did find a lot of the evidence circumstantial. Ex.: there is no proof he wasn't in Dieppe (apparently no one wrote about it), so he must have been in Whitechapel. Or: that painting looks an awfully lot like a murder scene.
TBR since December 1st. 2011; 435 pages.

KathyWheeler Yeah. With that kind of evidence I thought it was a little presumptuous to subtitle the book “Case Closed.” 12mo
Tineke @KathyWheeler yes, it was! And have you read the last sentence of 'My team': 'I honor those who have gone before me and dedicated their efforts to catching Jack the Ripper. He is caught. We have done it together.' I felt she was a bit full of herself. I would have liked a bit more reserve in declaring this. She just cannot be 100% sure. Just not possible. But apparently she is. 12mo

Read for the #doublespin of December @TheAromaofBooks
Lots of action, a little bit of an immature hero, clichés and ridiculousness. Not realistic at all.
I kind of hate the way relationships are portrayed and being a man or woman. We have tough Myron and doe-eyed Terese. The author tries to give more depth, but does it in a cliché way.

This was a bit of a disappointment after Still Alice. I did not like the characters, I disliked the husband. The recurring use of fancy words like latte, coffee this and that, fancy vacations, fancy jobs and fancy education annoyed me. It felt a bit like boasting and namedropping. It didn't feel realistic at all. It was all a bit shallow and there was little to no character development.
