Yeah no. Unlikeable unfeeling characters, tasteless transitions from serious business like discussing child abduction to having (ofcourse amazing) sex. Glossing over sexual abuse, child abduction. And also the weird reaction of the detective love interest when mentioning giving birth to a child at home. I wasn't into it.

At first I was a little bit lost with this book, but then it got me and I kept reading and reading and reading. Not that handy when you're supposed to sleep. It lost a bit of my attention at the end. But a good story and I'm looking forward to reading the next books whenever they'll fall into my hands.

This was an enjoyable read, but with some unlikeable characters. Didn't care for the obligatory romance. I felt that how Faith talked was too mature, did not fit her age at all. Ending was expected. Writing is good, subject is interesting.

This is my #doublespin for July @TheAromaofBooks
I enjoyed this. It wasn't entirely true to the facts. But I like history and it was an easy and fast read. Was a bit disgusted with the way women were treated back then. Also how it was all about power. And then those two little boys living all alone in The tower. It makes me wonder if children were mature at a younger age than they're now.

This was my July #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
While I'm sure I missed a lot of clues, context, humor, wordplay I enjoyed this adventure which is far from over. Some of the text (landscapey, routes things) I glazed over, but I enjoyed the interactions and things. Now I'm contemplating watching the film, but someone said to first read all the books and I'm not sure. Want to watch the film. Thoughts?

KathyWheeler I don‘t know. I think you could watch each individual movie after you read the book it goes with instead of waiting to read all the books before you watch the movies. 8mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! A Litsy group is reading all of the Lord of the Rings a chapter a day, so you can always join us for the other two books if you want!! We just started Fellowship yesterday. 8mo
TheAromaofBooks @jazzfeathers and @Daisey are hosting 😊 8mo
Daisey You‘re so welcome to join us for discussion as we read! As for the movies, personally I would recommend reading all of The Lord of the Rings first as Tolkien considered it one book in three volumes. Also, the movie divisions don‘t quite line up with the books, although I can‘t remember which things are moved where now. 8mo
JazzFeathers I agree with @Daisey The film are quite different from the books in the way the timeline is organised..l suspect it would become very confusing. But do join us if you plan to read the book. It's a lively bunch of people. It's been a blast! (We've just read The Hobbit 😁) 8mo

This was a thought provoking book. As a white woman it gave me pause to think about all the ways POC are treated. I've also read a lot of negative critics. And while they also may be right, I think making me, as a white woman, realize things is a good thing about this book. Because what do I know about all the intricacies of racism? Virtually nothing. I've got lots of things to learn.

I've read this book a while ago. It took me ages, because of the care of my then newborn daughter, and that's why I didn't really enjoy the book as much. The book was rather gruesome here and there. To be honest I don't even know many of the characters anymore or who the murderer is. Oh well...

I enjoyed that the attention was way more on all the various people in this town. I did not like that there had to be romantic feelings between Freya and her intendent. The murderer is suddenly revealed at about 400/550 pages in. And that's that. The ending was a bit disappointing, it kind of sizzled out.

TBH this is just to show off my 6 month old daughter Maeve. She looks hot, because it is, that's why the nakedness. But anyway I finally have started to get into some serious reading. Meaning I have found the energy again. And I read when I can get my daughter to sleep - if I manage to put the phone away. Just started Americanah and it's already so real. Enjoyed the story. But felt they were cheating here and there for taking the bus sometimes instead of walking. Also could have done without the talk about the homeless, or how she kept describing their own appearance as homeless. Did not always believe people reacted as negatively as the author told they did.

I've read some crazy books, but this was... indescribable. A good book, but damn were those characters horrible and some a bit dumb. Felt exasperated here and there. The things that went on, unpunished.. Kate Bush' song was perfect, it fit so well and gave me some much needed lightness to persevere. They're not pretty, but I do enjoy the Penguin Popular Classics.

I hate to review this book, because the author died so recently and this seems to have been the reason for publishing this book. I am going to do it anyway.
The book was okay. On the whole all the stories were average. If I hadn't read it, I don't think I would have missed anything. I think the popularity of this book is mostly due to her tragic death. The reader questions felt pretentious.

I found this a very interesting non-fiction about the cold cases of the New York Cold Case squad. Some are solved, some still need that one piece of evidence that will solve the case and give the detectives rest. And in more recent cases also family and friends. Politics has a place here too. I tried to find out what has happened with this squad. Has it been absorbed into other divisions? The politics sounded inhuman.
