I do love this series. Simon is so fascinating, maddening and way too much like me, alas.

Recovering on a remote Scottish island, his peace doesn‘t last long. He is pulled in to a murder inquiry by the overstretched local police. A newcomer, popular with the islanders, has died in perplexing circumstances. The community's reactions are complicated and fragile.
I can never pan a Simon Serrailler mystery, but this one had a few faults that moved me right out of the “pick” zone. DCI Serrailler is one of my absolute favorite male detectives—I told my mother once that if we could bring him to life, I‘d absolutely ask him to marry me (so you see my outright bias)—but in this outing (the 9th), he is a bit self-pitying, with a short temper, and a churlish attitude ⬇️

Congratulations @Mitch on your Litsy milestone! 🥂 🎉🎊❤️
The next book for me to #completetheseries is the tagged book, number 9 in the Simon Serrailler series, and I‘m just getting ready to start!
Thanks for your generosity, and I hope you get another 100K!
9th installment of Simon Serrailler series is not as good as others in the series but still enjoyable writing. Simon is recovering from arm amputation injury from last book on Scottish Island Taransay. He solves murder of a woman and goes back to Lafferton to solve cold case of Kimberly Still who has disappeared. Love this series but I think Hill is losing interest as last book was 3 y ago. Hoping for a next book and think you should give it a try
I‘m looking forward to reading this book 9 of The Simon Serrailler mystery series when it comes out in November. Susan Hill is best known for The Woman in Black but I really enjoy her Simon Serrailler series. Book 1 is The Various Haunts of Men and takes place in Lafferton, a small town near London and deals with missing people. Excellent series not to be missed.
