My #Bookspin for January has been read! Definitely a pick. Maybe 3.5 or 4/5. I like the main characters a lot, and the central mystery was compelling. The setting in the Toronto area was a definite plus. The historical parts of the mystery, set during the Bosnian War, were really difficult reading, and some of the characterizations of women were rather judgmental, but all in all a solid debut. I‘m definitely continuing with the series.

I waited months to read the next installment in the Lynley/Havers mysteries so I could read it in January, and I wasn‘t disappointed. I love George‘s writing immensely, but it‘s the detail and the psychological terrain she traverses that mesmerizes me. A wonderful series, and a terrific book. Not as much Havers in this one though, and she was missed.

First #BookspinBingo read for January.

Hmmmm. Reading goals or resolutions: Read 150 books and achieve @Andrew65 ‘s #20in4 at least once! 😉

Word of the year: active. I‘m too sedentary in the things I love to do.

I‘m reading the tagged book and very much enjoying it. Solid mystery set in Canada. Unusual characters and themes, including the massacre at Srebrenica.

My #BookSpin list for January! I just finished it a few minutes ago. WHEW. I had to add the book I‘m in the midst of to the 21st slot because it‘s the 2nd already! (How did this HAPPEN?) The final four will probably be free squares this month.

New book journal!

MittenGirlPeach I‘m trying something new this year: two books need to come from my shelves. I generally get most of my books from the library, but of course I receive many as gifts, and those are going unread too often! And of course I‘ve fallen in love with swaps, thus more terrific books that I own. 3w

The anticipation builds! So many good things to open in my #bestof2021 box !

We had my brother & nephew here for our annual New Years get-together this weekend, and of course we missed 2020, so it was extra special. We also lost my sister-in-law last March, so it was extra emotional. I realized after they‘d left this morning I had my beautiful swap box to open, and here we are!

They‘re leaving Sunday morning though, so we‘ll see. #20in4 @Andrew65

Another square crossed off for December #BookSpinBingo, and another satisfying P.D. James. This mystery could have been a standalone novel, and a fine one, but it also dragged a bit, especially in the beginning. Adam did *not*, amazingly, figure things out with chapters to go and tell us so, but then he *was* convalescing. Looking forward to reading more of the series next year.

Another fabulous series I discovered this year. It‘s an exceptionally literary mystery series with an unusual detective at the center. The mystery itself was a good one, with certain aspects made clear from the beginning, but the ending was VERY unexpected. Another book crossed off my #BookSpinBingo list!

MittenGirlPeach @tracey38 someone (maybe you?) posted late last year that you always used a book planner from the Etsy shop “peanut butter taco,” and I looked into them and fell in love. I read this book back in November, but I wanted to make sure I posted a review. It was fabulous, definitely my favorite of the Kincaid/Gemma series this far. And I‘ve enjoyed them all! But the plot, the writing, the subject matter: very literary, and very well done. Highly recommended. I‘m reading the series in order, and I do recommend that for the progression of the relationship at the heart of the books, but it‘s not integral to the plots.

Started a new series last night, and it immediately sucked me in. That feeling when you get in bed with a new book to read and you love it? So good.

It‘s my #BookSpin too!

Leaves and weather update: the snow is gone, some leaves are *still* hanging on, and Mark may have to wait until Spring to clear up the leaves in middle of the yard. The top and bottom are done, but the warm Fall put the process back. And now it‘s cold. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So, this is definitely a pick, but not a five star pick. Maybe 3.5. I saw advice to start with book no. 3 in the series, but I owned this already, and it‘s been on my shelves for years . . . My first read for September #BookSpinBingo. And what a read. I‘m mesmerized by mystery thrillers these days and this one is TERRIFIC. And it was my #BookSpin! Atmospheric police procedural, set in Galway, first in a series. I‘ve got the second on hold at the library already!

The pic is from Tuesday morning, after the hot weather broke. The view is from the front of the house, looking East. So lovely. Happy Labor Day weekend, littens!

Avanders Hello! Checking on #FallingForFallSwap #fffs package — all packages were supposed to be shipped by this past Wed 9/8. I may have missed your notice… but can you verify when your package was shipped? Thanks! 🍁🍂 4mo
MittenGirlPeach @Avanders it has mailed! I have a pic to post soon. Despite multiple checking of the original email while sleuthing for the right items, I did inadvertently write down the wrong date for priority mail, but it has shipped and is due to arrive the 15th. 4mo

Still working my way through what will probably be the final book for August #BookSpinBingo. It‘s another enjoyable mystery, number three in the series. And I‘ve dialed in my September #BookSpin list! I started Brutal Telling in July, realized it was set at Labor Day, put it on my August list, then decided to wait for the perfect “reading in season” time: Labor Day weekend! The rest are a mix: my bookshelves + library.

Pickpick

I like this series, and I liked this book (the second), but the mystery itself didn‘t grab me. The main characters are good though, and I‘ll definitely continue on. Another book crossed off my #BookSpinBingo card and the second book I read for #AwesomeAugust. I‘m in for #20in4! @Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks

The pic is of me still enjoying a cup of coffee on this Saturday. The Colombian that @BookBosomed1 gifted me! Ohhhhh it‘s soooooo good!
