so-soThis follows pretty closely the same story beats as the original Austen. Transposed to the 2010s, Emma‘s actions seem more cruel than naive. The romance with Knightly was practically nonexistent throughout the book, which would have been one of the best ways to update for modern times. I‘ve been disappointed with this modern Austen retelling series. Finished this at 11:30 pm last night!

This is what my New Years looks like: When Harry Met Sally, takeout, a new Shakespeare themed coloring book, and sparkling rosé (not pictured). My BF is working out of town, so I am opting out of a friend‘s outdoor bonfire tonight to enjoy a quiet evening by myself. Planning on taking a relaxing bubble bath later, too.

Randomly started watching this show, and was pleasantly surprised to find the first episode is set on Christmas Eve. I guess I shouldn‘t have been surprised since Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit are some of the featured Dickensian characters in the series. So far the plot revolves around a detective investigating the death of Jacob Marley as various characters from Dickens novels interact.

pickI‘ve been eagerly awaiting when this book would appear in my library‘s Libby offerings and jumped on this one ASAP. I finished this book in less than 24 hours.
Of the 3 Center books I‘ve read, I‘d rank this above What You Save in a Fire, but below How to Walk Away.
My only con is that both MCs are a little bit dramatic and presumptuous about how others will react to their respective personal issues, to the point of not being realistic.
pickThis installment was a bit of a letdown after the awesome two-fer of Penelope and Eloise‘s stories, but I still enjoyed the slow-burn aspect of this book‘s central romance (first 2/3) of the book.

Lots of points from the word scramble game (my favorite!), though my reading and watching was lighter this week due to traveling, Christmas, and family. My week 4 points totaled 16021, bringing my overall points to 17888. I probably won‘t bring in too many more points before New Years, but I have been hoarding my bingo and photo challenge points so I will be adding those all at the end of the month.

All of these cheesy Hallmark/Lifetime worthy Christmas movies are on Netflix. None of them were good or even very entertaining, so I used them mostly as background noise for doing chores and/or reading. At least they checked off a bunch of bingo squares.
