LOVE LOVE LOVE. Dark, complex, mysterious, both satisfying and dissatisfying. I can‘t wait to start the sequel.

I read this book slowwww, which definitely hurt my over all interest. I really liked Hayt (Aka Duncan Ghola) and Alia. Even if the jihad is clearly a speeding train of totalitarian religious authoritarianism, it‘s hard to empathize with the conspirators at all. I am not sure if I‘ll read further in the series, but I‘m happy I read this one before another movie is made. #scifi #classic #lessdrythanDuneLITERALLY
I know that Shute was an Englishman who spent parts of his life in Australia, but I wonder if he spent time in the Pacific Northwest. He writes so fondly of it in the start of this novel, and it is also featured in On the Beach.

Alaska Battle of the Books High School list for 2024-2025. I am on maternity leave this semester, but I will help a bit when I‘m back in January before the battles. I am working on Sunrise over Falluja. I‘ve read Old Man and the Sea and Fighter in the Velvet gloves before.

I am enjoying Robin‘s fresh voice. It‘s almost weird to hear the youth in the voice of an Iraq War soldier since this invasion happened when I was in 5th grade. I think Meyers‘ portrayal of the confusion and lack of knowing even in the soldiers rings true.

I adore everything Ruth Goodman does. I am really enjoying this book as I did the Victorian one. #history #ruthgoodman
Baby snuggles and Ruthless Vows. I haven‘t been reading much at all this year since baby chaos but am getting back to it now!
Stephen is a worried possibly uncontrollably murderous paladin who knits socks while Grace is a self conscious perfumer with a penchant for trouble. These two are sweet and exemplify the cozy romantic fantasy of Kingfisher.
I preferred Swordheart (sequel 🙏), but will for sure read the rest of this series. It was nice being familiar with this world of Rat 🐀 priests and terrible temple of the mother. #romantsy #cozyfantasy #knittersoflitsy
Still working on this book months later, but I‘m back at it. About a third done and looking forward to it picking up some speed in the middle.
I meant to be done with this blanket before my son arrived, but he arrived a bit early, so I am knitting by his beside. I haven‘t read much the last month, but have made my way through a few audiobooks thanks to @Kimberlone and her hoopla hookup.
I love going back to the world from Swordheart. Also Stephen, the MC, is a knitter. 🧶🧶🧶 #craftsy #knittersoflitsy #knitting #fantasy
Absolutely dazzling with sweetness and light academia. I thought Emily would annoy me in that FMC way of “ohh I‘m so bad at people that all my actions are all beyond cringe.” However, no, the juxtaposition of Emily and Bambleby is genuinely sweet, and I loved Emily more and more. I need more light hearted adventurous fantasy. Thank you, @Kimberlone , who has been recommending this since she read it. #fantasy #audiobook #fairy
I like Beowulf as much as any English teacher does and I was optimist for this adaptation. I was pretty meh the first 2/3rd and would have quit if it weren‘t a book club choice and short. The last 3rd, however, did get me going. So if you can make it that far…
Gren and Dylan were the highlight of this novel and the only non monsters in the novel.

@Kimberlone and I went to see The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes for her birthday! Honestly I loved it. I thought the movie was excellently executed. I LOVE the og Hunger Games books and movies, but this film was over all a much better film.

I am spending the evening updating my reading journal and watching The Sound of Music.

Dani & Michael‘s tension and chemistry is perfection. I wanted them together so badly. The alternating perspective is exceptionally well executed. I enjoyed both their voices. This novel is emblematice of Harmon‘s ability to beautifully encompass a time, setting, and relationship.

Reading during my construction wait. I live at the end of a 17 mile road, and we are currently enjoying construction season to repair. I loved Swordheart and am excited for this slim beauty.

Cleaning up my husband‘s workbench books. I laughed when he pointed to the Hemingway and said, “This one I have two of; I don‘t know how that happened.” 😂

I‘m back on my Anne of Green Gables kick this summer. Currently enjoying my coffee and willing my garden to grow. I am dying for Anne to go back to Gilbert and admit her love. Wearing his lilies at her graduation was the sweetest of signs.

Jack London‘s Cabin in Dawson City, YT 🇨🇦 This one was moved from down Henderson‘s Creek into Dawson. Additionally, its original logs were split with a twin cabin in Oakland, California.

Husband and I are listening to Bloody Rose, which is super special because he doesn‘t prefer audiobooks while driving. I‘m liking Tam but don‘t immediately love the novel as much as Kings of the Wyld. It isn‘t as laugh at out funny?

The Mirror of Erised wall has gotten a paint upgrade! There has been a flurry of house work happening here, but this may be my favorite addition. I love how the Mirror looks on the green! 💚👑 #homeprojects #housepainting #summerbreak #teachersoflitsy
If I had read this book 20 years ago, it would be a favorite today. Unfortunately, this is my first read at 31, so it is pretty mid shapeshifter YA. Kudos on some excellent enemies to lovers vibes. Additionally, if you read a lot of fanfiction like me, you may agree that the shape shifting was underutilized.

I went to see all the books at the loveliest of used bookstores in Detroit. I just wish @Kimberlone and I had more time and purse space for books, but we went right before the wedding we were in town to attend.
I bought one lovely little copy of Walden that fit in my purse.

Super cool giant page flipping book at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit. @Kimberlone and I took a quick trip for a wedding over Memorial Day weekend.

Last week of school starts tomorrow! I began Grapes of Wrath with my Honors 11 class to prep for AP next year. We will get through the first third to start their summer reading. Honestly, I‘m loving it. It is probably sacrilege to admit for an English teacher but I haven‘t read it before.

I adore Amy Harmon‘s work. Her historic fictions are each so special. This book is definitely in my top recommends now. I throughly enjoyed Deborah/Samson/Rob‘s journey! Also, I‘m such a sucker for Harmon‘s romantic story telling.

The happy times are over (if indentured servitude can be called happy), and I am prepared to cry. Loving the book so far. #historicalfiction #amyharmon #americanrevolution
Loving Deborah‘s voice so far in this novel. She is clear, and whole, and engaging. I am looking forward to her continued development!

Anyone reading this one yet? Amy Harmon is my automatic buy author, so I was super excited that this was released this month. It has all my favorite preteen trope vibes of a badass girl pretending to be a boy and falling in love- ala Bloody Jack or Alanna the Lioness.

My husband is on a Hemingway kick. He picked this up while we were books shopping in Singapore a few days ago. We have a final day of pool reading planned today.

I hadn‘t ever read The Hobbit so I was honestly a bit surprised but the good obsession compared to say good and evil 😂

#Libby checkout on my Kindle. I‘m 50 pages in and liking it so far. I‘ve seen mixed reviews but the vibes are speaking to me. I love contemporary written works with those classic gothic vibes.
Has anyone read this and enjoyed it? I also loved Mexican Gothic, and Crimson Peak.
In the same vibe I was a DNF for Anatomy: A Love Story.

Another year of celebrating my husband with a Hobbity birthday. We are currently watching Two towers and are resting off our luncheon. #hobbitcore #moviemarathon #birthday
I had a wonderful start to the year with my reading. My favorite was the first- Sea of Tranquility. In between all this I‘ve been working in A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations for my freshman honors class.

Obviously I‘m going to be dying for the next few years until the next one is released. #darlington #darkacademia
My favorite section of “SoM” -the section I teach & share the most. I rejoice in Whitman‘s joy in giving himself (and us) permission to ease & loaf & begin this journey together.
I thirty-one years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.
In 2023, I am taking time to enjoy & celebrate with each of the Whitman‘s 52 sections of “Song of Myself.”

New bookshelves are the best way to start the new year 📚
My husband built this on the 31st and we put the books up on January 1st. I‘m so in love (with the man and the shelves ❤️)

I am so excited for these two books! Only 3 days until HELL BENT (ie the Gentleman Demon of Lethe) and 3 weeks until Chain of Thorns!
Is anyone else dying in anticipation?!
