Okay I liked the first book in this series, this one I really didn‘t, with all that happened to the main character it was a little over the top. I tried, I really tried to get to “like” but I just couldn‘t. I know this is a popular series and I‘m trying to figure out why. the abuse is over the top and there should be some type of goal…if he can‘t get to where he needs to go. I think my biggest issue is, if he‘s an assassin how is he always caught?

CoverToCoverGirl All valid questions. I‘m not a fantasy reader at all but these came highly recommended to me. I loved them and have read the first three books. Fitz‘s struggle is very real, ugly and harsh. To me it had a very medieval atmosphere, and the Wit and the Skill were just plausible enough for me buy into the storyline and I especially loved Nighteyes. As readers we can‘t like everything, even if it is a popular series. 2w
Ddzmini @CoverToCoverGirl yes I agree and I have to say there have been time were I go back and reread a book and get a whole different feel so I‘m not getting rid of the books it‘s just I‘ll have to reread them in the future and see if I change my mind on it 1w

I didn‘t love Royal Assassin quite as much as I enjoyed Assassin‘s Apprentice. I think it suffered from a little bit of second book syndrome. And Fitz got on my nerves. But I still enjoyed the atmosphere and setting. Fitz is still young here so there‘s room for development. I‘m still going to continue the series but I‘m going to take a break to start book three with a fresh perspective.

Well, that was quite a ride! Robin Hobb is an incredible storyteller (as a rarely-reads fantasy, big books or series reader, I‘ve finished the trilogy in 9 months, which is quite bizarre!). She‘s just kept pulling me back in. And (eventually) we even got dragons.

Time for a few months away, but I‘ll definitely be back to this world and (presumably.some of) these characters.

rockpools Special mention to Paul Boehmer for incredible, never-any-question-who‘s-speaking narration, even at double speed for 39 hours! 1y
TrishB So glad you‘ve enjoyed it ♥️ the next trilogy is as good! 1y
rockpools @TrishB Gah. What have you done to me?! So, which IS the next series? (I may save it for next year tho) 1y

TrishB Ahhhhh, here is the crux of the matter. Fans are split on this. Do you want to read in a linear order or do you want to read the Fitz and the Fool follow ups? Then go back and read the others set in the same world. 🤔 1y
rockpools @TrishB Huh. I KNEW there was a reason I didn‘t know the answer already! I kind of feel like F+F have reached a good pause point - I wasn‘t even sure if their stories continued - so I might try something else. Possibly. 1y
TrishB Liveship Trader trilogy is next in linear order. F&F have 2 more trilogies. 1y
rockpools @TrishB 👍 Thank you! I might try Liveship Trader next. And I might change my mind by the time I get to it! 1y
RaeLovesToRead Read Liveships next would be my advice! I'm on the 1st book of the second Fitz trilogy now after reading Liveships. Liveships was amazing and it feels right reading them in order. 1y
RaeLovesToRead When I read Assassin's Quest I gave it 3 stars in protest because I was like THIS IS NOT HOW THINGS END, but I should revisit that because there are like another 5 books 🤣🤣 1y
Centique Well done you! This is how far I‘ve read too. I seem to really like starting trilogies but i take a long time finishing them! 1y

“You are confusing plumbing and love. Again. “

Yes, I‘m still going with Fitz & (thankfully) The Fool. Robin Hobb is a master storyteller. I‘d decided I was DEFINITELY giving up after this book. Buuut… I‘ll probably need to carry on after a (long) break. She‘s kind of genius.

9 hours left, and 7 days before Libby eats the audiobook. I REALLY don‘t want to be left with waiting for 3 weeks for the final 90 minutes! (Ramps up speed to x2.5 😬)

New Reads & Old.

Multiple re-reads that rocked!!

I‘d recommend these 16 for a variety of reasons.

I owe infinite reviews becuz … work … ARGH

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

vivastory I can definitely relate to work. Last week I did 65 hours & somehow still managed to read a couple of full books, go to the movies and start yellowjackets and I'm like, “How?!“ 1y
Twainy @vivastory glad I‘m not alone!! impressive 😁 why is work so busy! How‘s Yellowjackets? I watched current season of Star Trek Strange New Worlds & finally saw the new Guardians 3. I‘d like to see Oppenheimer. There‘s no time for housework or grocery shopping! 1y
vivastory I have to do a lot of professional development for most of this month in addition to my regular schedule for a pay increase. I watched the first 3 episodes of yellowjackets. I really like it so far! The creators do a great job getting the 90s vibe. I'm pretty tired of Marvel movies but I have to admit, I loved Guardians of the Galaxy 3. It's one of my favorite movies of the year. 1y
