111 posts | 151 read | 6 reading | 63 to read
Fitz has survived his first hazardous mission as kings assassin, but is left little more than a cripple. Battered and bitter, he vows to abandon his oath to King Shrewd, remaining in the distant mountains. But love and events of terrible urgency draw him back to the court at Buckkeep, and into the deadly intrigues of the royal family. Renewing their vicious attacks on the coast, the Red-Ship Raiders leave burned-out villages and demented victims in their wake. The kingdom is also under assault from within, as treachery threatens the throne of the ailing king. In this time of great danger, the fate of the kingdom may rest in Fitzs handsand his role in its salvation may require the ultimate sacrifice.BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Robin Hobb's Assassin's Quest. Just as good as the first book in the series. I liked how Hobb grew the character of Fitz. The plot was good and paced well. I didn't except a couple of things at the end. No major cliffhanger which I am grateful for. Looking forward to book 3. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The middle book of a trilogy is, for me, the make or break instalment. This had a few wobbly moments but on the whole it basically made sure the hook of the first book was firmly embedded! It was a little slow to get up to speed, had a fair bit of recap & the action is pretty much confined to a single location but it was soon back to the familiar convoluted intrigues of the Farseer family. Love the Fool - such a fascinating character ... cont. ⬇️

readingjedi ...and I was absolutely delighted by the relationship between Fitz & Nighteyes. Love that it isn't just magic, elves, wizards and dragons type fantasy though of course there are elements of those traditional tropes. The Skill, the Wit & the inscrutable Red Ship Raiders are all well thought out, subtle & thought provoking. 3mo

The Farseer Trilogy | Robin Hobb

This summer I have been mostly reading Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy. Not exaggeration - I feel like it took the entire season to get through it!

But now I've finished it & I feel that, after being so immersed in & absorbed by the world of the Six Duchies, I've been unceremoniously dumped back in the real world and with an unpleasant void in my reading life to boot.

TrishB It‘s a great series. 3mo

Back from Kos - where I read for approximately zero minutes as going on holiday with a 5 year old is hard work & not really at all relaxing. Gone are the days of reading 6 books a week while sat in a leafy taverna sipping ouzo. Cue 14 days of wrestling with a bottle of sunscreen & a recalcitrant child.

So am finally on to volume 2 of this trilogy. Which I'm enjoying & is helping to reduce my stress level.

SamanthaMarie Hahaha this is all too real. Just replace 5 year old with 4 year old 🤦🏼‍♀️ these kiddos 😅 4mo
saresmoore What an excellent synopsis of traveling with young children! 😆 4mo
Lucy_Anywhere Hahaha! I'm on holiday with a 15 month old - trying to stop him eating sand, changing nappies in all sorts of awkward places, and bribing him with sweet potato chips whenever we want to sit down with a pint 😂 4mo
Smrloomis 😂 hope you get a little ouzo and relaxation in there somewhere - but it‘s pretty tough. I don‘t know how people do it with - especially with three or more 🤔😱🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 4mo

Finally done with all the daughter's grad party madness and now back to reading! I loved book two of the Farseer trilogy. Slow yes, lots of details, but once you become hooked on Fitz and the rest of the characters, you really won't mind. Burrich might be my favorite here, and Nighteyes of course. On to the next book!

Second in her Farseer Trilogy sees our young hero Fitz growing up, falling in love, bonding with a wolf (well, we've all done it) and getting ever more mired in the nasty doings at court as his erstwhile protectors the King and Prince Verity are being out-manouevered by evil Prince Regal (boo, hiss). Slow-moving, maybe, but strangely compelling.

Cathythoughts Sounds good. I got the first one recently ... must find some time 🙄👍🏻 6mo

So I am left a bit... confused about how I feel about this one. I adored The Assassins Apprentice and was excited to see where Fitzs journey was going.
Well. I didn‘t see this coming.
Overall I think it was executed properly. I am full of feels and kinda want to cry. I am reading Assassins Quest now. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the second in The Farseer Trilogy. I can understand how this trilogy could drive someone nuts. It is so long and detailed. But this fictional world is so well developed and Fitz is such an amazing character that I could just spend the whole day following him around....which is basically what I have been doing today. Love these big epic stories.

Despise my slow reading abilities this book had me on edge the majority of the time reading it! I thought this book would be more of a political fantasy but I were pleasantly surprised that it was easy to read, since political fantasy usually makes me less interested I loved the first book and can't wait to read the third one.

Since I wasn't a big fan of the first book of this trilogy (It was somehow to slow for me) it's alone my boyfriends fault that I started this one. It's his favourite series and he just left the book lying around in my flat. And now I absolutly love it! It turned out to be one of the books where you just can't stop reading until you're done. And now excuse me, I have to start the third one! 😃

Really enjoyed this second book in Hobb‘s Farseer series. It was a bit slow in parts and I get frustrated at how utterly clueless Fitz can be but he is still a kid so I am forgiving Hobb for that. Once again the story ends with some plot lines resolved and more questions left unanswered leaving the reader satisfied yet wanting to know more.

So I just finished reading this book, and I loved it. But what's up with this cover? Fitz is 16 in this book. How many 16-year-olds look like this?? (This is another reason I had to buy the UK editions!)

Whilst the Liveship Trilogy remains my first love - the character driven story telling here is just as amazing. The first 1/2 of the book is a slow burn, ensuring we know & understand the internal dialogue & motivations of the characters - before Hobb pulls out all the stops and propels us to the finale with gusto. What it less satisfying is the clearer definition between good and evil - I prefer it when she muddies the waters more!

Andrew65 This is a wonderful trilogy too, pleased to hear about the Liveship Trilogy as they are next for me. 1y

This was really slow to start and seemed to not really go anywhere. I even skipped ahead (something I‘ve never done before!) and while I was interested in the events, I‘m just not invested enough to read on. Everyone praises Hobb‘s writing but I felt that she tells rather than shows what‘s happening and its just so...wordy! Maybe sometime in the future, I‘ll give it another go.

Caroline2 Nah I totally understand! I think she has a lovely writing style and I loved the characters but the plot really dragged and I wasn‘t keen on fitz and molly‘s relationship! 😴 so I totally understand why you bailed! I was very close to bailing myself!!! 1y
laurenbescoby I started with the rainwild chronicles, half way through, not realising there were so many books. Thats how I fell in love with it. Rainwild, liveships and then I did the fitz trilogies in order. By then I'd fallen in love with the world. It is a daunting series at 16, rather long books! X 1y

Today‘s reading spot!

Having a bit of a bit of a go slow reading wise this month. So leaving nothing to chance and diving into something that‘s a sure fire winner.

Cathythoughts Oh that looks so nice. The water on your feet 💫💫💫 1y
Mitch It‘s so hot here today! We paddled for a few hours and then pulled the oars up, got our feet in and drifted for the rest of the day! @Cathythoughts 1y
wanderinglynn That looks lovely! What a great way to spend the day! 🛶 1y

Pickpick

This started off slow but then really picked up about halfway! Fascinating watching Fitz grow up but I love the other characters too; Nighteyes, Burrich, Lady Patience! Brilliant writing that had me completely engrossed! I can‘t wait to read book 3 now!! We are pack!!! 🐺

Caroline2 @bookworm-Bobbie it wouldn‘t let me tag you?! 🙄 how are you getting on with it? It gets much better but halfway in! 👍🏻 1y
Bookworm-Bobbie @caroline2 how funny. I‘ve just commented on one of your previous posts. I‘m struggling to be honest. Still only on chapter 12. I think I might have to bail... 😞 1y
Caroline2 I felt the same! I would say skip to chapter 20, honestly you won‘t miss much but the last few chapters are really good!! I know how you feel, I was really close to bailing as nothing happens does it?!? 1y

Bookworm-Bobbie @Caroline2 (woohoo I can tag again!) I‘ll skip then- never actually done that before, makes me feel like a rebel! 😂 any important events I should know about? 1y
Caroline2 If I feel like bailing I sometimes skip! Right, skip to chapter 19, there‘s a nice little summary at the beginning! 👍🏻 I don‘t want to say too much without giving the good stuff away! Fitz bonds with a stray wolf called Nighteyes (he calls him cub to begin with) and that wolf is prob the best character in it!! @Bookworm-Bobbie (edited) 1y
Caroline2 @Bookworm-Bobbie feel free to ask any questions if you‘ve missed anything! 👍🏻 1y

#litsyconfessions #buddyread

😳 @Caroline2 I‘m so sorry! I‘ve not had much time to read this week - lots of boring stuff has got in the way. I‘m only on chapter 5 😱

However I‘ve got some time this morning so will try and catch up. How are you getting on?

Caroline2 No worries! 😉 I had some time to read this morning so I‘m on chapter 17 now! It‘s starting get a bit interesting now, must admit I was finding it quite slow going in the beginning!! 1y
Bookworm-Bobbie @Caroline2 yeah it was, I swear there was three pages to describe snow and then when Fitz went off on an ‘errand‘ there was only a paragraph! It‘s getting good now through! 😁👍 1y
Caroline2 Yeah, it such a great writing style and I love the characters but I just wish there was a bit more plot! It‘s starting get more interesting!! 1y

#Bookmail is the best mail, especially when it‘s a set of gorgeous UK covers. 😍 These are so much better than the US covers.

LitLogophile So pretty! 1y
