OH MY GOD NO!!! NO NO NO NO NO!!!
When I was 11 years old, I watched an episode of 20/20 about a man who was raised this way. He always struggled with being a tomboy and liking girls, which wasn‘t allowed since he was being raised as a girl. He found out as a young adult that he was actually born a boy. He barely talked to his parents again, especially after they objected to him getting surgeries to have his body turned back to a man‘s body. 👇🏻

GingerAntics This had a PROFOUND effect on me as a child. This was when I realised, with my logical, over thinking, child‘s brain (see, it‘s not that complicated folks) that gender is not how someone is raised and the people someone is attracted to has nothing to do with how someone is raised. It‘s innate, so if someone is gay, get over it. If someone is in the wrong body, get over it. Be supportive or shut up. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y
GingerAntics I also realised that day all those years ago now, the pain and suffering people go through when they feel different on the inside than their outside body says they are supposed to be. I didn‘t know the word “transgender” back then and wouldn‘t even hear it until I was out of college, but I certainly understood the concept. Knowing there was a word for it seemed perfectly logical once I did hear it. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 (edited) 3y
GingerAntics Perhaps the most important thing I learned that day is that forcing someone to be who they are not, forcing your will for someone on them with no regard for them (child or adult) does nothing by damage the relationship involved.b👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y

GingerAntics I get that I wasn‘t a stupid child by any stretch of the imagination (20/20 and Primetime Live were among my favourite TV shows in middle to upper elementary school after all), but this shouldn‘t be as big of a deal now as it is. This is 2021. Praying away the gay and acting like transgendered people just have mental disorders is barbaric and pathetic. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y
GingerAntics THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! THIS SHOULD NOT BE IN A BOOK WRITTEN IN 2018!!! THIS SHOULD NOT BE IN A BOOK WRITTEN AFTER 1996 WHEN THAT EPISODE OF 20/20 AIRED (and probably before that, admittedly)!!! There are people who will say I never should be seen that episode. There are people who will wonder where my parents were while I was watching that episode. The answer is, IT DOESN‘T MATTER!!! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y
GingerAntics That was quite possibly the most formative moment for me as a person, for me as a human being, for me to become a loving, caring, open hearted and open minded person. I remember that episode SO vividly, because the pain was so evident in this man‘s voice (his face was blurred out as I recall). This should not be in this book. It angers me and breaks my heart that any such suggestion exists in 2018, that any such suggestion ever existed. (edited) 3y
GingerAntics Okay, I‘m off my soap box now. 3y
TrishB I hear you ♥️ 3y
quietlycuriouskate WTF?! That's horrific! 3y
Amandajoy Well, won‘t be picking this book up. 3y
GingerAntics @Amandajoy it is an instantaneous deal breaker, isn‘t it? 3y
GingerAntics @kathedron so many new parents, especially young ones trusts their doctor‘s explicitly. If a doctor told them to do this, they wouldn‘t ask questions, they would assume this was the best choice and just do it. It‘s overwhelming and heart breaking to wonder how many little boys were raised as little girls, living their entire lives in desperation and confusion, because of this mentality. Sadly, as far as I can tell, no one has kept statistics on it 3y

My Dark Vanessa | Kate Elizabeth Russell

This book is frackin with my head...it‘s backhandedly victim blaming but not at the same time? It‘s weird, like she believes there are no such things as victims just survivors. And she also brings up an odd point about SPECIFICALLY this type of affair; that the excitement of being “slowly lead to the fire” is all apart of it and “isn‘t that love?”...I need an Advil 😩😩😩 #unethical #love #lolita #whatisthis
