Daisey I pretty much auto buy new Korman books for my class library, but I‘ve yet to read this one. After this review, I may need to move it up the TBR list. 6mo

Absolutely amazing. Follows the 2nd Ranger Battalion from formation, to D-Day, to Battle of the Bulge. A book dedicated to highlighting the contributions of Army Rangers that are normally forgotten in so many WW2 history books. Could not put this book down. A must read.

It was great. Bolger doesn't mince words with who he likes and doesn't in terms of American leadership but he alsodoes a great job of showing just what these men went through. Really enjoyed the book.

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

I liked the author‘s narration a better than the many primary source quotes he used to illustrate (and expand on) the things he was talking about. Partly, that may have been the smaller font of the quotes vs my eyes! I sometimes skimmed over some of those quotes. But the amount of detail and research that went into this is amazing. Very much like Cornelius Ryan‘s account of D-Day as a whole (published in 1959).

Bluebird This sounds great. Stacked! I read the Cornelius Ryan book years ago and liked it a lot. 2y
LibraryCin @Bluebird, Cornelius Ryan is also referenced in this book. That one was a 5 star read for me when I read it, as well. 2y
Bluebird @LibraryCin i read The Longest Day long before I started rating books, but it made a strong impression—probably would have been 5 stars. Lol. I planned to re-read it. I think I‘ll read this one first. 2y
tpixie I‘m planning to take my husband to Normandy this Fall, so I‘ll have to read this. Im currently listening to 1y

Tells how the Rangers came to be and some of their battles. Interesting. If you like WWII, I think you would enjoy this book.

Wolf Hollow features a girl who befriends a reclusive WWI veteran who is misunderstood in his community.
War Stories takes a boy and his great-grandfather back to France to be honored for his heroism, but the memories aren't all good. Deftly exposes the reality and grey areas of war.
The Unsung Hero of Birdsong, USA contrasts a celebrated white veteran and an unsung black veteran. Gently tells a story of injustice.
