Nothing like having to wait for your car‘s service check to encourage reading. The school I teach at is doing a reading challenge and so I am trying to read this “Quick Read” book as part of it. I think it is so funny that I have done all these challenges on Litsy and now there is one in real life. #readingchallenge #vhsreads

An interesting, timely story about gun violence. Decided to finish reading this instead of paying attention to workshop (whoops). The story of one gun and the impact it has on so many different lives. #vhsreads #booksinverse

This book. It was one of those books that I was probably supposed to have read before now and just never did. However, someone on Facebook mentioned teaching it with their seniors and I thought that might be something to try. Which of course meant I had to read it. This is a good read for sure and moved me in many ways. I look forward to sharing with my own students. #vhsreads #teachersoflitsy

Reminded me a little of The Hate U Give. Probably my favorite aspect of this novel is the title and how it explores the idea of “all American boys,” whatever their skin color. Fairly realistic as far as I can tell. I am proud to say that this is one we have at our high school library. #vhsreads #viloniareads

I don‘t think I was the target for this, as it took me a little longer to get into. It‘s a good story about a teen girl who gets to pitch for a professional team right out of high school. It didn‘t focus on romance or drama (outside of “oh no a girl plays baseball”). It treats the whole story with realism though which was refreshing. It‘s a no frills baseball story FOR ANYONE! I can appreciate that much. #vhsreads #viloniareads #yalit

Another read from the HS library. I enjoyed the set up of this series and this world. It was a little slow at times, but by the end I couldn‘t put it down. I definitely plan on picking up the sequel to find out what happens next. I do hope the love triangle eventually goes away though, I get tired of those in YA. #vhsreads #yalit #dragons

“A world that suggests those years (between five and twenty two) are merely preparation for the real stuff, and the real stuff is almost entirely defined by your college and/or career, is an awfully impoverished place. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, but neither is sleepless, stressed, and medicated.” p. 138, “Why School?”, Why They Can‘t Write, John Warner #teacher #vhsreads

This book has its ups and downs for me. I like how it captured the life of a teenage girl dealing with various traumas as she matures into adulthood. On the other hand I am definitely reminded that I am not the intended audience for this because I got so tired of all her negativity and how she treated everyone in her life. At the same time, I work with teens so I am fairly certain this is realistic, just not for me. #vhsreads #yalit

I may have skipped ahead a little in my reading...but still I wish this was something more policy makers realized. Just let me teach writing! #vhsreads #teachers
