All American Boys | Jason Reynolds, Brendan Kiely

Mehso-so

Reminded me a little of The Hate U Give. Probably my favorite aspect of this novel is the title and how it explores the idea of “all American boys,” whatever their skin color. Fairly realistic as far as I can tell. I am proud to say that this is one we have at our high school library. #vhsreads #viloniareads

A Season of Daring Greatly | Ellen Emerson White

I don‘t think I was the target for this, as it took me a little longer to get into. It‘s a good story about a teen girl who gets to pitch for a professional team right out of high school. It didn‘t focus on romance or drama (outside of “oh no a girl plays baseball”). It treats the whole story with realism though which was refreshing. It‘s a no frills baseball story FOR ANYONE! I can appreciate that much. #vhsreads #viloniareads #yalit

Top stack: books I need to or plan to read for summer break.
Bottom stack: books I have already read for summer break.
Not pictured: The two books I ordered on Amazon that will be delivered tomorrow and the 1000 essays I read for AP Lang.
Will probably start on The Fifth Season next since it is longer...need to read it for my irl book club. #tbr #vhsreads #viloniareads

If you read and enjoyed Scythe, then you will probably also enjoy this novel. It was both a quick read and one that made it difficult to put down. I pretty much finished in the span of a day! Definitely going to have to pick up the sequel. #yalit #viloniareads #vhsreads

Where Things Come Back | John Corey Whaley

This book is not one I would have picked out normally, but I was tickled that it was set in Arkansas (my home state). It was a good read, with two very different stories unfolding simultaneously during one Arkansas summer. Part mystery and part coming of age, I think it captured the spirit of the state well and I definitely liked the author‘s style of writing. #vhsreads #viloniareads #locallit #arkansas

I LOVED this book. 💜 I stayed up late finishing it last night. I don‘t think I have ever read a book like it. Friendship, mystery/thriller, and one girl‘s quest to save the 👸🏻 princess aka her best friend. I enjoyed not having any romances to worry about and it was just a purely fun read! I might need to find more by this author. #vhsreads #viloniareads #yalit #friendship

One of the book‘s for this month‘s LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 Book Club that I am part of in AR. Once again I got to read a book that I never would have picked up on my own. This novel was really ahead of its time (it was originally published decades ago). A coming of age novel that tackles life as a woman trying to succeed as well as being a lesbian. There was a lot of humor and truth here. #lgbt #vhsreads #viloniareads
