Yes, this is exactly how I feel walking home most nights.

Josie That is so scary! But so true. Bring a big hardcover with ya and just smack them with it! 9y

This is exactly how I've been while my fiancé has been away for a week and a half! So happy he is back and now I can sleep... Burglars and murderers in the kitchen begone!

Laura317 They come on a minibus! 😂😂😂 9y
steph_hashes_tags This is so me when my husband is away! (Even my dog goes on high alert when he's not home, we're both very convinced the house is full of burglars and murderers.) 9y
Adrienne_KG @Laura317 haha I love her sense of humour! 9y
Adrienne_KG @steph_hashes_tags I'm kind of glad to know that I'm not the only one like this! 9y

Really considering incorporating the quote "Reader, I married him" into my wedding somehow... Hmm!

Gezemice Getting married? That's awesome! 9y
Adrienne_KG @Gezemice yep! Next June - still 13 months away, so plenty of time to think of those bookish wedding ideas 😜 9y
Gezemice @Adrienne_KG Congratulations! I love your idea. Jane Eyre is awesome! 9y

Such a beautiful, heart-breaking roller coaster of a book. Highly recommend this one. I'm going to see Hanya speak tomorrow night for the Sydney Writer's Festival!

LaviniaG Lucky you! I loved this to pieces! ❤️ 9y
LadyBrik I've had this for months but have been too intimidated by its size to get to it yet! 😬 9y
Adrienne_KG @rosuvertical oh she was the best author to listen to. Everything she said just made sense - she said something along the lines of "I wanted the reader to be immersed, like a lobster being slowly cooked in a pot. The water gets warmer and before they know it, it's too late and they're dead". ? 9y

Adrienne_KG @LadyBrik Don't let the size put you off! Once you start, you won't be able to put it down anyway! 9y
Annl @Adrienne_KG ... The author's comment about the lobster and some of the other comments by readers of this book, already have me teary eyed, but I am going in....sometimes you need a book to help wash away some of the emotions which are scratching at the surface. This seems like that type of book... 8y
Adrienne_KG @Annl Exactly! I can't help but feel this book needed some "trigger warnings" though. A lot of people are divided over that sentiment though. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the book. 8y

Trying to read more feminist works - unfortunately I found myself skimming a lot of the middle bit, but I can totally appreciate how taboo this novel must have been at the time it was published.

Shortstack I don't know much about this book, but have pushed myself into the same challenge. Would you recommend this? Have you read any Charlotte Perkins Gilman? Yellow Wallpaper is one of my favorite short stories. I have a collection of hers I've been meaning to read. 9y
Adrienne_KG @Shortstack I would recommend this - it's not a long read anyway! Yes, I've also read The Yellow Wallpaper and it was a favourite of mine. I think I also have her novel Herland sitting on my bookshelf at home. 9y

He was clearly ahead of the times with "The Machine Stops". Eerie and beautifully written.

Well that was unexpectedly morbid. Beautiful piece of work though.

I love the library! I was super surprised that my library even had this graphic novel. They don't have many in their catalogue.

CynCruz23 Just picked this up from my library too! A lot of people I know think the library is old fashioned and stodgy but they don't know how hip it actually is. While they go out and spend money on books they're not sure, I'll be enjoying my FREE previews! 🤗 9y
Adrienne_KG @CynCruz23 I borrow around 5 books per week from my local library. It's a win-win for everyone! I'm saving money and don't feel as guilty if I don't finish a book because I didn't pay for it AND my support keeps my local library open! So many libraries and bookshops closing - it's sad 😥 9y

I loved this book! I'm always on the hunt for new historical fiction novels set in New South Wales - even better if there's some convicts involved! This one had a nasty flogging scene which was quite intense. Highly recommend this book!
