Currently re-reading (or technically listening to the audiobook version for the 1st time) and it's just as awesome if not more so the 2nd time around. In an effort to reread more, it's a lot easier for me to do if I consume the book In an alternate format. Basically if I've listened to it on audiobook, I'll read the physical copy/ebook and vice versa. It's really helped me gain new perspectives on the story and usually has deepen my appreciation.

The Parasol Protectorate series is a welcome escape for pretty much anyone; it definitely leans more towards the more feminine and Victorian sensibilities. However can enjoy the quick-witted dialogue and fast paced plot and the hilarious chapter titles. Just great - my favorite find of the year so far 😎

What a great book! Simply perfect in giving me exactly what I want even if it is terribly predictable and just a touch clichè. There are so many different descriptives you could use for this series but if I had to boil it down, it's a quick read that gives you some innocent wish fulfillment in a fun setting with sassy characters and petticoats. Not something I would normally go for but so glad I gave it a chance ?

Caught the flu unexpectedly at the beginning of #24in48 and only managed to read 3 hours 😭 my eyes were burning too much to read. Watched a ton of Netflix on the lowest brightness setting on my tablet but now I'm FINALLY feeling better so I decided to pick something light and easy and it's not a disappointment. The perfect cure for my flu blues 💚

Wow, what a simple but poignant group of sentences ? I always struggle with showing others the different parts of my personality especially when they've only known me in a specific way. It feels like I've got secret identities and I get all kinds of unnecessary self-conscious-y about it and it feels like I have "reintroduce myself" How Becky Albertalli has managed to convey this complicated concept in a few simple sentences is just wonderful ?

Just discovered this podcast and it is so wonderful. Vanessa and Casper do a deep dive into every chapter of HP and WOW!! It is so.... thoughtful, so utterly wonderful and delightful ⚡️This podcast has really sparked my interest in doing not only doing more re-reads of my favorite books but analyzing them more deeply. Not sure what book to do this for but I just added 3 re-reads for my reading goals 🎉

Last year I wanted to listen to more audiobooks so I experimented w/ a WIDE variety. By chance, I started one Star Wars book & then suddenly my @OverDrive account was flooded w/ them! I couldn't get enough 🤓They're so well produced from the sound effects, the amazing narrators & background music - a truly rich & fun experience. I'm embracing my favorite 2016 reading discovery w/ more SW audio! Darth P is already completely addicting 😊

This series is just incredible. Osamu Tezuka is considered the "godfather" of manga but really should be essential to all literary circles as a master of pacing, restraint and poise. Buddha's journey is packed full of significant moments but the playfulness and humor expertly woven in elevates it to be memorable, impactful. Tezuka knows when to let moments breathe and when to inject life. Dedicate a weekend to this series, its worth it ?10/10

This graphic re-telling of Buddha's origin is incredible - educational, funny, poignant. All with a very unique style by its author/illustrator Osamu Tezuka. I've already requested the remaining volumes from the library 📚📚📚

Proof that if you turn any subject into a graphic novel, I'll probably read it 🤓 the illustrations convey so much instantaneously and help drive the subject matter forward + it's hilarious. I had no clue about Buddha's origin but now I'm becoming obsessed / sign of a good story 🎉

I lucked out with my library haul today - all of these books were on my TBR list (just a small fraction of it, of course) but wow I was so ecstatic! I'm instantly captivated by this story. The narrative style is so interesting and compelling, I was immediately able to picture all the different "picture brides" with their struggles and triumphs. It's pretty amazing how compact the writing is while still delivering a huge emotional punch. Can't believe this book is so short, I'm halfway done and I've only been reading for about an hour ?

Just couldn't get into the story but I did find the parts that clicked for me absolutely fascinating. I will definitely give it another go in the future. The story did remind me of some books I've enjoyed such as The Phantom Tollbooth, The Martian, and Arcadia.

This book has a lot of heavy sci-fi but manages to balance it with a likable loser whose memories are sharp and heartfelt. My favorites parts are in the midst of this sci-fi work, you'll find these charming little tributes to language, writing, books and analog tools. Tough for me in the beginning to get into but I'm enjoying it more after 90 pages in

Listening to this on audiobook is amazing!! The sound effects and voices are superb - so much fun. Leia's inner thoughts and meditations over her place in the universe (literally and figuratively) is refreshing. Seeing Leia as a figure of action and agency is just pretty freakin' wonderful 🌀👧🏼🌀

F------in' yes! I didn't know I could love Amy more but f--- I do. I cried openly in public while listening to this audiobook (which BTW IS THE ONLY WAY TO CONSUME THIS BOOK) and of course laughed out loud scaring small children and annoying old men. Amy is more than just a funny person, she's a real person who is complicated, passionate and well meaning. Inspiring and perfectly messed up 🌟 10/10 (📸 credit in comments below)

This book is INTENSE - It was mostly a joy for me to read, I enjoyed being immersed in this saga + the characters are incredibly tactile. BUT (I'm sure all 700+ page books come with this caveat) DAMN this book is sooooo long. I can only recommend it if you truly love Proulx, can truly commit to a quiet purposeful read, and if you love reading about trees for chapters on end 🌟 Proulx lover? 9/10, Proulx liker? Stay-cations are basically Reading Vacations to me ? I went to the library and just grabbed anything that caught my eye. I'm looking for something to follow up "Eleanor & Park" and "Sleeping Giants". Any suggestions fellow bibliophiles?

I read this on a whirlwind of a trip and It was paced perfectly to keep me unfocused on the annoyances of flying. I enjoyed the format a lot - the unreliable narrator/interviewer helped keep me engaged and really made me question what was what. Some of the characters come off a little flat but I think it logically makes sense considering the "narrator". It was unpredictable to me which was fun. Quick, easy to get into and interesting ? 8/10

Nothing about this book appealed to me initially. Nothing. I usually want to roll my eyes out of my head for books like E&P but damnit Rainbow, you're good. You're really good. POV switch was brilliantly done, the writing was piercing - it captured all the unbelievable intensity you go through when you're a teen and in love with another person, with books, with music all while life just sucks all at the same impossible time 😍😭😳😒 🌟8/10

Almost finished with this book and wow 😳 I'm glad I didn't read this book when everyone and their dog was reading it. When a book is figuratively everywhere and everyone is loving it, something mean inside me switches on and makes me immediately and unreasonably dislike it. 📚 Almost halfway through this 700+ page chunker 😳 this book is looooong but enthralling and I love Annie Proulx's writing so so so hard🌲🌿

I'm loving this book so much - a lot of truth about humankind's relationship with nature especially how one-sided it tends to be. Might be a tad heavy handed for some but I'm enjoying it immensely 🌲🌲🌲

Proulx is doing everything for me right now and rescuing me from a small reading slump. 💚

Proulx is such a master at description and atmosphere. She has transported me completely from my modern life in Hawaii to the wild forest of Canada in the late 17th century. Hoping this HEAVY as hell book is another great read like the rest of her work.

P.s. I kinda love the term pine duff for some inexplicable reason 🌲💚

Hey Litsy pals, ever experienced a book that seems perfect for you but when you actually read it, you just don't get it? I've been excited to read this series since it's adored but perhaps it's been too overhyped for me, or perhaps it's not the right time for me, or I simply don't like it. I really hate this specific frustration, it makes me feel guilty, uncool, & sad. Had to force myself to DNF so I don't hate read it & rage about it later 😞

Sometimes it's just f-in good for your soul to read something heartbreaking and then patch it back it together with "all-the-feels" glue. These kind of books can sometimes be heavy handed with their subject matter but Sáenz's light but precise way with words is freakin perfection. I would be very interested in a more "adult" novel from him. This book was wonderful ? We need more books like this ?9/10 (original link for pic in the comments?)

Wow! I can see why the hype for this book is booming! Sweet and complicated in all the right ways - the relationship of Ari and Dante builds the story just so. I'm amazed how Sáenz puts such powerful emotions in simple straightforward prose. Loving it so far ?

listening to kickass ladies while running make marathon training a snap ? just the right amount of action and fun. Not to mention really smart and funny writing. I'd recommend the audiobook over reading just for the narrator of "Desparado" alone - deliciously punchy especially when she curses ?

My nomination for the @TheSpinecrackersBookClub #augustphotochallenge for #favbookishfriends are Joe & Sam. Their relationship might be one of the most complicated but their connection endures despite all of their conflicts. Is it cheating if they're technically cousins? 😁

I really wanted to like this book since so many people have such great love for this series. But.... It's just not working for me. It was incredibly easy to read and I appreciated the writing style but everything kinda just came together which is one of the main flaws I see in a lot of YA. I did love the characters though so I'm really on the fence if I should continue? Does the rest of the series make up for some of these quibbles?

My vote for a great minimalistic cover. Simple yet poignant - conveys instantly one of the most important themes of this book, the brutality of familial relationships. Conflict all over Salinas Valley biblical style. Conclusion: it's freakin tough being a Steinbeck character.
