Pain, Parties, Work is full of thoughts, on New York, on Plath, on feminism, on love and friendship...

Pick with a caveat--this is a beach read (see the sand? Coming to you live from Bermuda). Don't expect more from it than that. But that being said, it's a clever and fun roman a clef/faux memoir about a former teen series actress who falls in love with a big movie star and then discovers the extent of his cult-like practice...sound familiar? 😂

This book is dark and brilliant, and I LOVED it. Could not rip myself away from the pages.

"To have power, be seen, be heard...to be in control, to seize control, simply because we happened to have a dick."

This book is genius.

Jen Doll gets me. "I worried that it would be stupid for me to give up that something, even if the signs pointed to me not wanting it at all, not that, not with him."

Is the tissue box too on the nose? The whale keeps it whimsical. Seriously, this book was a lot to take in. While I admired her honesty, sometimes it was too much. But I also had moments of real thoughtfulness and connection, which made it worthwhile. I won't reread, but I'm glad I read.
