pickThis narrative non-fiction about a woman dealing with alcoholism and bulemia who becomes a mother dealing with a cheating husband broke my heart apart and put it back together again. I learned a lot about emotion all awareness and how some women view their own bodies in light of society's expectations of women's bodies. The author makes an epic journey to her soul and returns with confidence and wisdom. ♥️
Belle Dame Sans Merci has a new cover, showing Belle's eyes turn black as she transforms just before killing the knight. I think it makes it even spookier.
pickI'm loving this book! It's another world-version of Romeo and Juliet, with a clan of women who keep watch for the risen dead and a culture rife with human sacrifice and strict rules of conduct. I'm still in the beginning of this book, but it captured my attention over Way of Kings, so that's really saying something!
pickThis book picks up momentum after the first third is complete. That's when the main character is more clear and starts acting for herself instead of reacting to her circumstances. The detective part is a little confusing, though. I wish it was a little more cohesive, but it's still enjoyable.
The language of the book is almost lyrical. I'm not done yet, but it's really good so far.
so-soI was surprised by the pedophilia, rape, and domestic abuse in this book. It's treated lightly by the author, but is still disturbing. Outside of the almost constant sexuality, it's a little magical, like a flower growing in a wasteland. The author uses a lot of similes, uses telling instead of showing, and has a lot of POVs in omniscient third person. Even though the author breaks the rules of writing, it works, in an interesting, abstract read.

I just started this book thanks to suggestions on here, and I can't thank you enough. Although I almost put it down from what's on the fist page (killing and skewering insects! Gross!), this got better. Now the main character is in wonderland, trying to fix the family curse that makes them crazy / able to talk w/ insects and flowers. However, now that I'm more than halfway through, I see there are serious problems with this book. Yikes.
