What an awesome graphic novel Monstress was. The world-building was a little confusing at first, but was eventually explained well throughout the book. I got lost in the beautiful illustrations. I agree with Neil Bauman when he said that the book had some best cats throughout the graphic novel worlds. I looking forward to the rest of the series.

Starting this graphic novel tonight.

This was fabulous! I remember skimming the first few volumes a few years back at a friend‘s when I had a few minutes to kill and being really impressed, but I didn‘t remember them in detail so I‘m starting the series over. Definitely one to take some time with to appreciate the art and the complex world building. Can‘t wait to see where the series goes!

The artwork in this book is beautiful! And thankfully the story is well crafted. This is volume one and it incorporates steampunk, fantasy and action into a page turning graphic novel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a beautiful graphic novel, the images are stunning. Read this one because I saw other people talking about it and I do not regret it! Very interested to see where the story goes.

It‘s bloodier/more violent than I would prefer to read, but the world, story, and characters have drawn me in...I may have to read the next volumes. Love that cats are the oldest race and are the poets and scholars 😸 Also, beautiful artwork.

I read this graphic novel a couple years ago and although I don‘t remember much of the plot the art is #outstanding

Decided to give this series a try and really enjoyed issue 1. Beatiful artwork and intriguing storyline. This may have been my favorite panel!

Re-reading this series after having read the first one quite some time ago. Not sure why I never picked up further volumes.

A dark story of magic, betrayal, beasts, gods and monstrous beings who fight for power, survival and revenge. A story about a girl exploring her past and how she came to be.

The story is compelling and the accompanying artwork is great, which in my opinion is what makes it to a 5 star rating.

My monthly reading plans have already gone askew 😂 I read the first volume in this series yesterday and instantly fell in love. I devoured the other three yesterday, and I now have to wait for January for the next instalment 😭 this series is dark high fantasy, and the art is absolutely incredible!

I enjoyed this one. I‘m glad I picked up the other two in the series. I enjoyed the characters of Master Ren and Little Fox a lot.

Despite my rating, this is a good book. Gorgeous artwork and a world so dense, events already in motion, that it took me many chapters to finally connect with the story. Serious world building here, be advised to pay close attention else you miss out on the rich detail.

Imagine if Venom took place in another world where ancient beings had bred with humans, and became persecuted by a religious sect which uses their bones to create a substance that holds healing properties amongst other things. Beautiful artwork, immersive world building and a heroine out for revenge and to save her people all while struggling with the demon inside (literal demon-like Creature). Really enjoyed.

Today‘s library #bookhaul - just for me. The kiddo‘s are their own thing!

I‘m reading this on Hoopla and I keep putting it down because it‘s SO gory and sad, and I‘m having a tough time following what is going on. The art is gorgeous, though, and I feel like I‘ll love it if I can figure it out.
This is #Chloe from earlier - she sits like this all the time. 😆 Right now she‘s sleeping and we are enjoying our last Xmas lights night before the tree goes down. 😫

I found the story confusing at times but overall I liked it. I'm curious to learn more about her family and the conflict with the ancients.

This months book club picks. I've been looking forward to these two for a long time.

SoOoOo Glad I picked this up from my library 📚 recently 🤗. It‘s definitely great for anyone jonesing from Saga... it‘s reminiscent, but with a much darker tone to it. The protagonist is a bit annoying at first w/her stubbornness but I can tell there‘s a whole backstory leading up to a huge climax so I‘m excited for that 😈😄😄😄. This is a series that is deserving to be on anyone‘s TBR 🤩👍🏼👍🏼

Book haul! Finally traded in some books at Half Priced Books and found some comics off of my wish list! #comics

I‘m late to see this news but I couldn‘t agree more! Marjorie Lieu‘s writing is excellent! So excited to see her win the Eisner Award for best writer. Monstress is fabulous. If you haven‘t read it, I encourage you to take a look & if Liu ever has an appearance near you, go see her. I‘ve met Liu at several different events & she is always kind & generous with her time—talking with her is always delightful. Anyway, just sharing the exciting news.

The first volume was super confusing to read due to all of the characters and information that is thrown at you. Plus the pacing was so fast and a bit jarring that the majority of the time I felt very lost and confused. However, vol. 2 was a major improvement and much less confusing than the first installment. The characters were more fleshed out and the story was much easier to follow. I‘m eager to continue the series.

The art is absolutely beautiful and detailed, and the storyline is pretty intriguing. I‘m looking forward to the second one, and I think I‘ll have a better idea once I read that whether or not I‘ll continue with the series (but I don‘t doubt I will).

Gorgeous illustrations, but ultimately the storyline was not my thing. I couldn‘t connect with the characters, and I found the mythology to be a little confusing.

So it took me a while to really get into the story but by the end of it I got hooked. I‘m definitely going to buy volume two because I want to see where this goes and I‘m interested in the Old Gods. The illustrations in this are gorgeous and I‘m happy I gave this story a try!

For #asianlitbingo I read #monstress by marjorie liu & sana takeda which crossed out #graphicnovel with an #asian main character. What a visceral, striking, and overwhelming experience. It's probably the goriest and most gruesome #comicbook I ever read but it's also the most beautiful. I love that juxtaposition! I want more even tho it hurts to read. I can't wait to purchase the second volume.
