I'm not going to say this was bad but it didn't grab hold of me like I expected it would. I hear great things about this series so I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up hope just yet but I don't think I'm in a hurry to grab the next book

What a clever read…I enjoyed this immensely, all the way through. Great twist on the original Sherlock theme with plenty of differences to enjoy. All the witty attitude and intelligence you‘d expect to see, with great characters to fall in love with. I finished this book in a couple days and tore through the next 2 of the series within a week. Excellent, highly recommend.

Finished this #Audiobook today.

After a slow buildup, we finally got on the case! Interesting how Charlotte, aka Sherlock Holmes, assisted with the case from afar, deducing from what she was told and case files.

All in all, the author added all the Holmes items into her narrative, including all key player‘s names.

I started this #audiobook today! Borrowed from #Hoopla via my library #SHPL!!!

After 25% we‘re still not at the point where Charlotte Holmes starts detecting. It‘s been a lot of setup to get to the multiple murders, which she will be solving.

I think I‘ll enjoy the second in this series more than I enjoyed this one. It promises well for setting up a clever twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes, but there was a lot of “setting up” to do. I look forward to reading the next and getting more into the mystery, the one in this book was well written and I think the next will be even better.

A promising start to a Victorian mystery series that posits Sherlock Holmes as the creation of an impressively intelligent young woman so that she can be the person her society does not allow women to be. I needed a new series to listen to and luckily the entire Lady Sherlock series is on Audible Plus. Book 1 is a good start to the series and I really enjoy the twist — Charlotte Holmes masquerades as Sherlock Holmes and it actually works. Very clever and I‘m really enjoying the series so far. I‘m already almost finished with book 3! 4⭐️ The narrator is quite good as well.

I had tried this book years ago and it just did not gel with me but I‘m so happy to have a new series ahead of me now! Another Sherlock reimagining and I‘m all for it. These books are really detailed and I did find myself having to flick back to remember names etc but it didn‘t ruin it for me. Excited to read more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

When this first came out, I tried it in ebook format and couldn't finish it. Later I tried it in print and finished but couldn't quite understand what everyone was raving about. The concept was great, but I found the writing unclear at times. There were a lot of characters to keep track of and they were introduced rapid-fire at the beginning of the book. The audiobook worked much better for me, which was unexpected.

katy4peas There are a ton of characters to keep straight, but I also enjoyed this book. I have the other books in the series in Mt. TBR. 😊 1y

Are any of you familiar with this book or the rest of the Lady Sherlock series? It‘s been on my shelf for a long time because our library is waving late fees until they‘re able to reopen. I‘ve read a lot of good books since then, but haven‘t read this yet.

smalldogs_bigbooks2419 @Mrs_B I just recently started a very long book, which is part of a very long series, but I might take a break from that to read this before continuing on with the series I‘m reading. Maybe even alternate. One book from each series before moving on to the next. 🤷‍♀️ 2y

Recommended by a friend for those who liked the Laurie R. King Sherlock series. I'm finding this one a little less compelling, although I appreciate Charlotte's scheme to remove herself from the Victorian gender constraints and the gender-bending of Watson as a former theater performer. I think the romance elements feel clunky-we don't really have a compelling reason why Charlotte is drawn to Ingram-but will still keep reading the series.

A genderbent retelling of Sherlock Holmes, Charlotte Holmes uses the alias Sherlock in order to investigate a crime and prove her father's and sister's innocence. I've only read the first two but I loved them. This Top 20 game reminded me of them and now I'm moving the next ones up my TBR.
It goes without saying that I also LOVE the original Sherlock stories.

3.5 stars I liked the idea of this book a little better than the actual execution. It started out strong and ended stong, but I found the middle to be a bit drawn out and tough to follow. I really did like the independent character of Charlotte Holmes and her astute observations. I will probably continue with the series.

Scochrane26 You should continue, I love this series! The first one has a lot of set-up, but the others are a little quicker. 3y

There is plum cake and crinoline, puzzles and red herrings - as a young woman who is determined to find a way to support herself, find her worth and have her skill set recognised, finds her way in the world.

So - I‘m still enjoying pairing a non fiction / fiction read. Next up this pair - the Non Fiction is all about the 1952 ‘Smog‘ that killed thousands in London. I‘ve paired that with an historical mystery the first in a series with a female Sherlock - and I hope lots of atmospheric fog!

While I did end up enjoying this one, I found it rather slow until about 50% in. Maybe that was just because there was a lot of backstory/characters to set up to get the series rolling. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The murder mysteries were quite convoluted and of course Charlotte/Sherlock, always being five steps ahead, could be a bit difficult to follow as well. But I enjoyed this cast of characters and intriguing backstory and look forward to reading more. 4/5⭐️⬇️

TheAromaofBooks Great review! I think sometimes it's hard for authors to find that balance between sufficient backstory so we aren't lost and so much backstory that the real story gets lost in the details! 3y
robinb @TheAromaofBooks So true! And I have found in other first in series that they can be a little (for lack of a better term) “analytical” trying to get things set up, but subsequent stories are that much richer and interesting for it. 👍😊 3y
