The Escape Artist | Brad Meltzer

I really enjoyed this book. It was easy and fast-paced which lead me to finish it in 2 days; however, I don‘t know how I feel about the use of ending the chapters with rhetorical questions. Yes, it added to the dramatic effect of the novel, but shortly after the question was posed, the answer was immediately given in the next chapter‘s first page. Besides this, it was an awesome story line and I highly recommend this book.

I have to wonder if the relationship between the sisters is what made the book eerie or just the situation in general. This book is about 2 sisters living in their family home with their sick uncle after a terrible crime happens to the rest of the family members. The one who commits the crime isn‘t what‘s shocking, it‘s the reason why that gets you. A quick read, great characters, and immaculate imagery. Well done Shirley Jackson, well done.

I didn‘t expect to like this book. I don‘t typically reach for novels discussing war but I actually really liked it. I enjoyed how Billy time traveled and saw different parts of his life. I also liked how abduction played a part in this novel, it made for an interesting read. 4 out of 5 stars I would give this book.

Kill Creek | Scott Thomas

Completely not the haunted house book I assumed this would be. I have to admit it took me about 75 pages until I really got into it but once I did, I regretted nothing. What horror lover wouldn‘t enjoy a horror book about horror authors visiting a haunted house? Definitely recommend! Some descriptions are a little brutal but still worth the read.

The language in this one took me by surprise. It was a little too vulgar in my opinion but a book that deals with such heavy subject matter needs pretty strong language to balance it out. It was a decent book, just not what I expected. Tread carefully, it gets pretty gruesome in the last 50 or so pages.

I am now afraid of any tappings I hear around my house. A quick read but very captivating. I enjoyed the idea of a demon possession book considering I only ever saw movies dealing with the topic. Highly recommend for an afternoon creepy read!

Elevation | Stephen King

Stephen King did it again. He managed to absolutely capture me within 147 pages. This tale tells the story of acceptance but with a twist. Although it‘s not one of his longer books, it‘s still very worth the read.

Reading this as an adult was difficult. The various names that sounded similar to one another and the plot jumping around a bit made me struggle to navigate my way through this book. For children, this would be the perfect read. The wacky names of people and places, elements of magic, and the fun characters would be sure to keep a child interested. Not my favorite but still a good story.

Such a great book to show young children to embrace their differences. A wonderful explanation of disabilities, acceptance, and self-confidence. The pictures really help tell the story because it expresses what words fail to do. Highly recommend for young readers.

Northanger Abbey | Jane Austen

I never read a Jane Austen novel until this one. Was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. The use of the gothic elements and satiric voice of the narrator makes this novel very appealing to me. Will definitely be reading another by Austen.

The Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern

Fell in complete love with this book. I picked it up thinking it would be a creepy book about a circus, but it‘s so much more! This is my go to reread when I‘m in a book lull. Highly recommend!

This book drew me in so fast, I was surprised. This is my first time ever reading a Paul Tremblay book and I can strongly say that I‘ll be going back for more. I read this in one sitting, I couldn‘t put it down no matter how creeped out I was feeling. The book keeps the readers guessing about what is actually going on to the very end. 100% would recommend to anyone who likes a good thrill and scare.
