I loved a lot about Joan Ashby. Chasing babies has had me in a reading rut but this held my interest all the way through - 500+ pages. I didn't love the excerpts that were supposed to be her own stories, but other than that it was so good.

After seeing so many raves for this short story collection, I think my expectations were too high. I thought these were good stories, but overall I didn't LOVE the collection like I've loved some other.

Something about this one struck me just right. A little slow in the beginning, but so great.

I didn't know what I didn't know about North Korea. LOVED this collection of short stories, the first thing to come out of communist North Korea.

My fave sales rep dropped off a box of galleys...no idea where to start, some of these weren't on my radar.

Well-ReadNeck Ooooh, the bottom three were all on my coming soon list. 7y
Litpicks @Well-ReadNeck that's so nice to hear! I'll start with one of those. 7y

I thought this was really boring. I'm worried I'm missing something since so many people are liking it, but gosh I was not that impressed. It was a compelling read, I finished it quickly, it just wasn't very satisfying.

I thought this was OK good. I was into it enough to keep reading, every now and then I'd lose a little interest and then get sucked back in by the awesome dialogue. Story of a young boy whose immigrant mother leaves home one day and never returns. His story, his mothers..it was good. Easy sell to book clubs when it comes out in paperback in, oh, 2018 or thereabouts.

There are all kinds of crazy in this novel, and gosh did I love it! Super atmospheric, haunting and perfectly written. I like it even more because of how much it frustrated my boss, no neatly tied plot lines in this one!

First 5 star book of 2017! Gosh I loved this amazing mix of Kavalier/Clay and maybe a little Glass Castle? Can't quite figure out who it feels like, maybe just its glorious self.
