Although I wasn't a huge fan of Evans use of a frame story, I still LOVED this book! Such a sweet and gripping story that kept me up reading all night! Great uplifting read.

I LOVED this book! Butler very vividly describes the antebellum south from and African American point of view. While some of the mysteries of the novel are never resolved (like how the time travel happens), it is amazingly written and has a satisfyingly upsetting end. Two thumbs up!

Pat_E_Cakes I actually studied this in an English Lit class and loved it. I ended up reading some more of her books but this was by far my favourite. Though not necessarily the same, I would also recommend Nalo Hopkinson- especially Brown Girl in the Ring - if you have haven't read her already. Took it in the same class. 8y
Mallory @Pat_E_Cakes I have not read or even heard of that book, but I'll definitely check it out! Thanks for the suggestion😊 (edited) 8y

I found the story line of this book to be very interesting, but unfortunately the book is poorly written. While reading this I felt like it was written by someone young who is aspiring to be a famous author, but hasn't quite gotten a grip on it yet. Since set in New Orleans around the 1930s I hoped more of the time period would show in the story, but it really doesn't. Quick read, but only decent.

LOVE this book! The beginning is a little slow, but once the story gets going it sucks you in! Great to read again and again! New #favorite

I expected more from the king of horror. Of the 600+ pages only the last 150-200 pages kept me wanting more. The majority of the book is back story and description overkill. If you're a patient reader then I highly recommend this book because the ending is amazing!

CAUTION: The Glass Castle is a heartbreakingly good book, but the faint of heart should be wary! This book made me want to pull my hair out more than anything else I've read. Page turner from start to finish! Highly recommend!
