My Lady Jane by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand

My Lady Jane | Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand

"At this point, G realized he'd just asked a ferret what the dog said". Basically sums up what to expect from the entire book. It's hilariously amazing, and it would be amazing if we could actually teach history somewhat accurately through books like this.

Already love it, and all I've read is the dedication, or rather the apology: "For everyone who knows there was enough room for Leonardo DiCaprio on that door. And for England. We're really sorry for what we're about to do to your history."

Picks up where the first left off, but with an entirely different twist (obvs) that brings everything and everyone together from the first book. I'm excited to read the third, but thankful that Libba is still writing it, so I can relish and process all the emotions and wonderings.

Chupacabras are real, that's all you really need to know. And so is everything else rumored to live under your bed and in your closet at 3:30 in the morning. But what you really need to be afraid of, are the humans.

Anyone else read this? I'm about half way though, and not invested enough to HAVE to keep going, but still curious as to how it all comes together. But I can totally walk away. At any time. Anyone have any direction? Should I keep going or abandon? Help.

CaitlinSiem I enjoyed this, but it did take me a little while to get into it. The ending is pretty twisty. 8y
Maude_Lynne @CaitlinSiem I couldn't do it. I skipped ahead to the end. 8y

Red Queen | Victoria Aveyard

Did you guys hear the Hollywood news? Elizabeth Banks in the works for directing Red Queen movie, which means that I may not have to read Glass Sword after all! http://www.epicreads.com/blog/updates-on-the-red-queen-movie/

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Why don't you want to read Glass Sword? 8y
Maude_Lynne @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I got about 50 pgs in and wasn't invested AT ALL. I think I have to wait for all the installments and read them back to back. Plus, she doesn't recap at all, and it isn't standaloneable. Have you read it? Did you have a better experience? 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I usually find plot details come back to me (most of the time 😅) @Maude_Lynne, I enjoyed the book but wasn't hugely invested in any of the characters (a movie would be cool!) 8y
bellebookish It definitely took me about a hundred pages until I was into glass sword, but I promise it's worth it 8y
Maude_Lynne @Lbellebooks Blarg. Fine! I'll add it to my TBR and give it another go. 8y

Anyone else picture Jensen Ackles when they read Captain Thorne, or is it just me? Because when they make this series into a movie, (Hollywood, get on that!) this needs to happen.

CaitlinSiem I own this whole series but have only read Cinder (which I enjoyed) but you describing a character as having the likeness of Dean Winchester I AM SO COMPLETELY SOLD. 😍 And I love Captain Thorne already. 8y
Josie Yes yes yes!!!! He would make a PERFECT Thorne! 8y
Maude_Lynne @CaitlinSiem @Josie RIGHT! Thanks for the endorsement. Hollywood! Where you at?! 8y

Glass Sword | Victoria Aveyard

I gave it fifty-odd pages. I can't get into it, and I'm not wasting my time trying to push through it, since I picked it up for fun. Back to the library with you, Mare!

CaitlinSiem I wasn't a fan of Red Queen so I'm glad to know I'm not missing out on the sequel. 8y
Maude_Lynne @CaitlinSiem nope! I liked the idea of Red Queen enough to give Glass Sword a whirl, but my book club ladies gave it a "meh". On top of not being sucked in after 50+, out! Better things to read! 8y

"The great Lady Catherine, head hacked from her body, the mob ripping at her hair for souvenir?" What a ghastly image! I never thought about what happened to the bodies of the beheaded, I guess I figured they would be buried. Even if it's fiction, it's a powerful suggestion.

CaitlinSiem I enjoyed this book. The accuracy of the historical elements and setting was well done. 8y
Maude_Lynne @CaitlinSiem right! I appreciate that she did all that extra research to weave in little details. 8y

I tried to finish this book a after a second go, but I just couldn't do it. Maybe it's because I'm not crazy about short stories, or maybe it's because my TBR piles are staring at me accusingly, asking why I spend so much time at the library, but I just didn't care enough to finish it.

I am disappointed! I'm disappointed the women in this book are one-dimensional. I'm disappointed that there are too many conveniences. If this book was set in 1958, and pulp, it would have been easier to accept the character's choices. There is just too much superficial dusting over necessities.

How awesome would it be to do a world-wide library crawl? I would love to visit the New York Public Library's main branch and eat lunch on its steps like I'm trying to get in with S and B.

This is the WWII comic you didn't know you wanted, but totally have to read. Marguerite Bennett does not disappoint. Right from the start the bombshells are a hell of a force. You won't find any damsels in distress in these pages.

Is there a phrase book somewhere that's decade specific that Libba may have used during her research? Because I definitely support using, "It's the cat's particulars!", on the daily.

BookNerdBritt I'm halfway through this book, and Pearls is hands down my favorite story in the collection so far. 8y
Maude_Lynne @BookNerdBritt same here! This is actually my second go at it. The first time I couldn't get past the slave ship story and gave up. A friend from my FYA group was all, "Gurl, skip it. You'll love it. Keep reading". You don't mess with FYA group. Haha. 8y
BookNerdBritt @Maude_Lynne haha, I borrowed this book from someone in my FYA club :D There are enough good stories to make up for the weird ones. The Color of the Sky is my other fave! 8y

Drag Teen is everything I expected and didn't know I needed from a book centered on a teenager's journey to go to college by winning a Miss Drag Teen scholarship. The writing is so genuine and joyful that even the stereotypes are easy to accept. Party!
