so-soThis story was just so so for me. I think a large part of that was because this book seemed to be geared for a more YA audience. The chapters move through a before and after sequence of events among 6 different characters. I wasn‘t much interested in the backstories and the storyline - predictable.
This book would be enjoyable for those who like YA thrillers, more specifically books about being stranded on a desert island or survival stories.
pickThis cozy was perfect for getting me in the mood for Halloween! The author‘s third (and final so far) book of the series and I hope there will be more Stella adventures to come! My only request? Stella to end up with Andy - who agrees?!

panThis book was a struggle to get through. None of these characters were likable, the plot extremely unorganized and unrealistic. I forced myself to finish in the hopes that it would somehow lead to a good ending but it fell flat. 😫
pickMy horror needs are met. The Shining is my all time favorite horror movie but now I understand why Stephen King hated the movie. It could never capture what he intended with the book. Beautiful character development... much like Poe did in works like The Fall of the House of Usher.

Three sisters and their adoptive parents come together and slowly unbury themselves from the pain, the guilt, and the fears that kept them buried alive so long. The same avalanche that has killed their parents many years ago buries them in mind and spirit. But love is what pulls this family through back to the beautiful Scottish Highlands just in time for a most memorable Christmas together.
Well... I really want to see the movie but I know I need to read the book first. Hopefully I like both!

pickThis book reminds me very much of The Haunting of Hill House in that it is the house who is watching...the house described in the form of a human body; the wood it‘s tired bones, the windows as eyes watching... also in true Haunting of Hill House fashion, the reader is left to wonder if this is truly a haunting of the supernatural or of one‘s own mind.
Wow the imagery in this book is on point. Really loving it so far.

I had all the feels throughout this incredible book. A well written story about the unbroken bond between a mother and child. Time is of no significance in the end as love prevails. In addition, a sad lesson in history - this story is loosely tied to the true story of the Duplessis Orphans, who were falsely certified as mentally ill in the 1950s in Quebec. Highly recommend, especially if you are a mother.
What a cute read! The plot and character development was really well done and the main character relatable. IMO there aren‘t too many hocus pocus-y types of books out there and this one fit the bill. My only complaint was that the ending felt rushed and incomplete.
