Relatively compelling but also quite absurd? I wouldn‘t say Reckless Girls was a bad read, because I read it in a day and didn‘t really ever feel compelled to put it aside. But, reckless is a generous adjective for girls who were in the end, just quite silly. I was glad when the action picked up in the final third but also this is where the absurd vibes really came in. Am I mad I read this? Not really.

Stopped at my library yesterday & picked up Reckless Girls and The Magnolia Palace.

4-17-22: Happy Easter 🐣 My 36th finished book of 2022! When Lux and Nico decide to leave their lives in Maui to charter a boat ride to a deserted island for 2 girls named Amma and Brittany, they have no idea what the girls history together is and what it will mean for them. Upon arriving, they meet Eliza and Jake and all goes well for awhile, until it doesn‘t. I liked it but only gave it 3 stars because the ending felt rushed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣3️⃣6️⃣

A deserted island steeped in legends and horrific tales of cannibalism, mind-altering phenomenons, and generally bad ju-ju

An entertaining story that‘s not without its flaws, none of them fatal, although there are some fatal moments for our characters. You can expect many a twisted turn, a few OMG moments, and there‘s even an epilogue.

Just finished this one. I was so curious to see where this book was going and the writing kept you wanting to read so finished it in a day. I am still unsure how I feel about the ending. I was honestly expecting (hoping?) for a different ending but I‘m not sure if I‘m mad about that or not haha. Maybe it‘s a good thing I wasn‘t expecting it? Will be reflecting on that more and may update.

Again, engaging, entertaining, quick R. Hawkins story! 👍 Just, I am still not sure how I feel about the ending. It was weird. I'd prefer better explanation 😀

First, let me say that I enjoyed this book. Six very different people meet up at a deserted island that has an iffy reputation. Naturally everyone has a secret. It may be a bit clichéd but in today‘s times if a book can entertain you, you can‘t ask for much more. If I want great lit I‘ll go to Dostoyevsky!

Got this one as a skip the line at my library, and it started off well. It just didn‘t quite pick up as I expected. It wasn‘t bad, by any means, and I listened to it in one day (to its detriment, prob, bc by the end I was just kinda tired)

Just picked this up on hold from library. Barely startedJust Like Sisters. Since I have a time limit on Reckless, thought I‘d get to@first. Anyone out there have opinion?

This was a super quick, page-turning sort of audiobook (whatever the equivalent of page-turning would be for an audiobook 🤪). I listened to the whole thing in 3 days! Interesting premise, although nothing ground breaking, and some pretty crappy characters but I enjoyed watching them fall apart. Overall enjoyable! 🌟🌟🌟💫

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this one! The book has alternating chapters of Before and Now so you really get a good look into the backstory as the present events play out. It really makes you think how well do you really know someone? It explores friendship and survival and the fact that everyone has a secret, but how does all that shift when cut off from civilization? How far are you willing to go for revenge and what you feel is owed to you?

It‘s kinda bad when you enjoy the build more than the reveal. I feel like heading to a deserted island with strangers is like running up the stairs in a horror movie!! 😂

I‘m a huge believer in having a character‘s choices make sense in the world the author has built, and many thrillers (including this one) fail at that. The twist at the end, while fun, just didn‘t make sense for the MC. Maybe I just need to relax my standards for 🧠🍭 books. 🤔

Reckless. Isolated. Survivor. Easy read. Kept me guessing until the end. 👍

I‘m not mad I read this but I needed it to have more suspense. The pacing was off for me, with more time spent in the set up than I needed. More creepy things needed to happen on the island and the suspicious characters needed to do more. I did like the “before” chapters but the story didn‘t live up to its potential.

This book is pretty uneventful during the first half...once it picks up it becomes a bit far fetched and weird. It was just okay ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Ok im bailing on Devil House for now and picking up Reckless Girls! 🌸

Having lived in a tourist Mecca for over 20 years, I concur.

Wouldn‘t recco — it all feels a bit dramatic and the lead character is both gaslit and insufferable. This plot idea felt half baked, in my opinion.

What isn‘t half baked? These halfmoon cookies my boyfriend had sent from my hometown in Upstate New York to us as a Valentines Day surprise. 😍💖

If you're going to market a book as a Thriller, there has to be something thrilling about it. This was a straight up drama. Being a very avid Thriller reader, the author needed soo much more to make this a Thriller. I mean how much drama can you have on a deserted island? Apparently a lot! It's like this book was a cozy drama, then at the end remembered it was suppose to be a Thriller and just threw some random stuff in. Very fast read tho? 2/5

Fast moving and over-the-top with a great locked room vibe.

I really enjoyed this book.
At first you don't get a mystery/thriller vibe.
We follow a group of young people deciding to go to a deserted island. We get to read about each character past, alternate between before and now chapters. To me it made it interesting and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next.

This had it's moments. Going to give it 3.5 stars. Going to use this one for #ReadtheUSA2022 since parts of it take place in Hawaii.

Currently reading. 📖

This book stressed me out, even before things turned eerie. A group of four 20-something‘s who barely know each other take a two-day sail from Maui to spend a couple of weeks on a lesser-known island with no connection or communication to the outside world. Isn‘t that unsettling enough?

Maybe I‘m too deep in the settled part of my life, but I could not relate to any of these characters.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun breezy thriller that was perfect to read while on vacation, especially when I was sitting on the beach 🏖.
The twists weren‘t that hard to figure out, but that did not take away from the fun. 👍🏻for me.

In the acknowledgements, the author explains her longtime desire to write a boat murder, and I think she well-met her goal. It‘s just one of those books where it‘s a pile of fun to dislike everyone.

I was bored a bit but the first half of this book. I think it was a combination of pace but also what the author was trying to build with the characters. In the end I really enjoyed it, so many twists and turns! 3.75 ✨

Started this one last night with high hopes, I know there were a lot of mixed reviews and so far, unfortunately, I'm not impressed. Just nothing really thrilling about it so far. I'll give some time but must also finish Lucky today.

Another dessert as I‘m cruising through my week. Pun intended.
