Reminiscing about this Olympic read while I watch Rio. If you love sports and all the drama, discipline and art that goes into becoming the best of the best then this one is for you. Written to keep you captivated and anxious even when you know the outcome. You'll leave with a deep respect for this 1936 team (from coach to crew to boat craftsman) and their representation of America in Berlin.

This book promised "a tale of love, loneliness, and espionage" but ultimately left me wanting more of all three. The biggest thrill came from reading my first advanced reader's copy (thanks for the borrow @todd and @Litsy !) and not from the story itself.

With his passing, it only gets more important to keep re-reading, keep discussing and never forget.

I fell completely immersed into this book and have only hoped to be so moved by a story ever since. Beryl Markham came alive as a woman whose greatest struggles arrived when she tried to conform and greatest accomplishments came when she dared to follow her instincts & dreams. She's a true pioneer!
