The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin

"Medieval childcare books are generally very stern and preachy. They are still fun for the modern reader, however, because early printers used a long s that, to the modern eye, looks just like an f. Since the books tend to dwell at length on breastfeeding, you read a lot about getting the fuckling infant to fuckle."

This is one of those "read while you can" moments. Hooray for swimming lessons!

After three days of rain, it's back to the deck with an Aperol spritz and a creepy story -- couldn't resist this one after @unabridgedchick 's rave review. Summer has arrived!

unabridgedchick Yesssssssss!!!! I hope you love it!!!!!!! 6y
Shannonbee @unabridgedchick It's great, but it takes me forever to finish a print book anymore! I have to do most of my reading on my phone while Clare snores cutely next to me. 😂 6y

The great thing about driving to California rather than flying: you can take as many books as you want, even if you probably won't finish any of them because you have a three-year-old. 💕💕💕

I can hardly believe this is really happening. I'm at the cabin, everyone else is in bed, and I'm eating lemon cake and reading this fabulous book. I thought I was going to be hung up on The Raven King for weeks, but this is the perfect follow-up. Incredibly creative and gripping.

wanderlustywriter Ooh I've been needing a follow up to The Raven King 8y

@Liberty 's Fun Friday Photo prompt: what do you like to read about? I'll read anything about ancient Rome, modern India, & the Romantic poets. And as you can see from my vacation reading, I can't resist a smart historical romance heroine or a novel inspired by a 19th-century British author.

Bubbles, chalk, books: everything you need for a trip to the park. I was bereft after finishing Jude Morgan's Passion, but fortunately I had this novel of the Brontes waiting patiently on my shelf.

I thought about @Liberty 's Fun Friday Photo suggestion (the book with your favorite ending) for a long time, but in the end I couldn't resist the youthful heartbreak and hope of Cassandra Mortmain -- one of the characters I love most in literature. 😢😍😍

I could have read this when it came out six weeks ago, but instead I waited and waited and waited for my library hold on the audiobook to come through. SO WORTH IT.

"Did you know it's possible to really irritate a dying person? Even an already mostly dead dying person. I don't recommend it though."

Vacation reading: French Milk en plein air! I loved Something New and Relish, so I'm excited to read the rest of Lucy Knisley's oeuvre!

My two-year-old, every time she sees the cover of this book: "What happened that yady, Mama?" ??

I can't get enough of this series. Clever, funny, romantic, and unafraid to tackle matters of the heart and issues of social justice!
